Devil Royal Rumble : Results and Overview

Royal Rumble 2008 was the twenty-first annual Royal Rumble professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It took place on January 27, 2008 at Madison Square Garden in New York, New York and was the first WWE pay-per-view broadcast in HD.[2][3][4] The official theme song was "Stand Up For Rock 'N' Roll" by Airbourne. As is traditional, the winner of the Royal Rumble Match will get a match at WrestleMania for his choice of the WWE Championship, World Heavyweight Championship, or ECW Championship.[5]

John Cena wins the Royal Rumble Match

The Champ is back, and after a quick stop on Broadway for Royal Rumble, “The Champ’s” return tour is headed to the grandest stage in sports-entertainment.Cena whipped the capacity Madison Square Garden crowd into a frenzy when he tossed Triple H over the top rope to win the 2008 Royal Rumble Match. With the victory, Cena earns a World Championship opportunity against the titleholder of his choice at WrestleMania XXIV on Sunday, March 30, in Orlando, Fla.

Randy Orton def. Jeff Hardy

Legend Killer is known as a viper. Like so many times before, Orton struck a fatal blow just when he was cornered and appeared on the verge of defeat. Hardy found out that Orton’s RKO can be just as sudden as a Twist of Fate – and it led to his demise. While Orton slithered out of the ring and held his WWE Championship aloft, New York’s faithful booed, called him names that we can’t repeat here and gave a salute – the middle-fingered kind. Like it or not, the Legend Killer is continuing to build his “one-man dynasty.”

Edge def. Rey Mysterio

Just when it appeared that the Master of the 619 might reclaim the World Heavyweight Championship, the “Guerrero family’s” most influential member inserted herself in the match and interrupted Mysterio’s attempted pinfall. Seconds later, Vickie – up from her wheelchair – received a 619 from the challenger. This distraction, however, enabled Edge to prepare for Mysterio’s West Coast Pop from the ring apron and land a perfectly planted spear directly into the masked Superstar’s abdomen, for the win.The Rated-R Superstar’s triumph was undoubtedly attributed to his family and though Edge’s injured lover didn’t leave New York City celebrating, the championship remained in the family.

Ric Flair def. United States Champion MVP

With his livelihood on the line in a Career Threatening Match, Ric Flair found a way to win and keep his career going Sunday night at Royal Rumble. When MVP thought he had snatched victory and forced Flair into retirement, the referee ruled that the match would continue, giving new life to “Naitch,” leading him to the victory via his legendary Figure Four Leglock.

JBL def. Chris Jericho (Disqualification)

Even the vast confines of Madison Square Garden could barely contain the hard feelings built up between Chris Jericho and JBL. The personal hostility between the two exploded in a bloody battle Sunday night at Royal Rumble, with the Lonestar Loudmouth taking the brunt of the shrapnel, but emerging victorious nonetheless.s blood continued to flow, the Lonestar Loudmouth left the ring to pursue his rival. But Jericho had reached the breaking point. He grabbed a chair and slammed it against JBL’s head, losing the match by disqualification. He wasn’t finished yet, though. In a scene reminiscent of three weeks ago, Jericho pulled an electrical cord to the ring, wrapped it around JBL’s neck and yanked the Lonestar Loudmouth against the ropes.
