Default Re: So whose Bombay is it anyway?

Well that might well happen.
But even if he increases his vote share from 0.5 to 5 thats still something for him and i am sure he has done that much. Plus if he does somehow win some seats then these days even 2-3 MLA's are kingmakers.

Whats interesting is that looking at the bigger picture, you tend to see that the people from Maharashtra and below haven't gone up North to settle as much as the Northies have gone down South. There are hardly the same issues in Northern states and lets forget about the east north states, lets talk of Punjab, Haryana. THe Northies can go and settle down south but same somehow is not true about the Southies. And these are prosperous states.
I can think of the reason as the kind of jobs on offer are in the primary sector but then there are still lots of offers as farms. Somehow the people from South don't prefer such jobs. Having said that people from say Bihar have been coming to Punjab for long(look at Chandigarh) and i don't think the people who live there feel to happy about it either. These guys bring in their own culture and most of the times the rising crime is blamed on them(not that the original natives are too good on that themselves but its easy to find scapegoats and its backed by stats also). But you can't do anything about it as mostly the natives don't want to take the petty jobs, everyone sees the dollars in canada and europe. They will do the petty jobs there, not here.

So coming back on topic, the low income migration hasn't happened from the Southern states. Actually its the states of UP and Bihar that people have gone out and that again tells you the solution to the problem. Once this happens, its but obvious that these people will face problem. Because where(in the states) they are taking the low income jobs that are actually being competed by the locals, there will be resentment.
