I think his point was not on per capita basis but on overall basis On that too we might just be equal. Bush has to give some fodder back to his people to explain his failed policies and this is a good yarn to give.

More importantly in that link, i would look at per capita comparison between India and China which is pretty disturbing. Grain consumption between the two counties shows over 90% difference between China and India. Meat even higher. For all the faults of socialistic and communist policies, they do do a good job of providing the food to the people.
