Troy Hi guys...just a touchline on the movie Troy...saw this movie yesterday and simply loved it..Had to write about it and recomend it... You will like this more if you are aware of the Trojan war epic and can identify with the heroes Hector, Achilles etc...
The movie is about the trojan war that was fought when the prince of troy Paris elopes with Helen, Queen of Sparta and wife of Menealus who is also the brother of Argememon, the emperor of Greece who controls all the small kings in that region...
The greeks consider this as a jolt to their honor, group together and launch an unprecedented massive attack on Troy...with a fleet of 1000 ships, they set to conquer Troy which has never before been conquered considered to be blessed by Apollo, the sun god.....Troy, long considered impenetrable is led by their prince Hector their able general and the best in Troy...He is the elder brother of Paris...
Greeks are aided by Achilles undisputedly the best warrior ever.
The war scenes are well shot on a very large scale...$175million were spent in the making of this movie..
Brad Pitt as Achilles and Eric Bana as Hector shine as the main characters...
Brad pitt as Achilles is a bold move..I almost laughed seeing his long blonde hair.....Him as Achilles seemed a joke initially, but he soon fits the character and gives the character ample charisma and style..
Achilles is kind of the antihero...He doesnt fight for his country...He has differences with Argememon and follows his own method of fighting..He is more of an independent mercenary fighting for Greek than someone fighting under the Greek King...Achilles is the arrogant but able character who knows he is the best there is...his is a truly powerful character and the leading light of this movie...But wait, he's not the sympathetic center of the piece. That position will go to prince of Troy,Hector played by Eric Bana, who brings extraordinary conviction and impressive nobility to his role as son, elder brother, city protector, husband, father and martial tactician.
He is as complex as all the roles he fulfills in the movie and fully fits the rich portrait of a hero with controlled emotions and cool reason. Our involvement in this film rests heavily in our regard for his values, his awareness and his strength of character.
Brad Pitt as Achilles gets some memorable dialogues...
Achilles : "Don't waste your life following some fool's orders";
Achilles : "I see 50,000 men brought here to fight for one man's greed";
Argememon to Achilles :"History remembers Kings, not soldiers";
Achilles :"War is young men dying and old men talking."
Achilles telling Hector "You must be really stupid or very brave to come alone and face me"
Achilles roaring to Hector "You will roam the underworld with no ears, no eyes no tongue so the dead will recognize you as Hector and say Look theres Hector the fool who thought he killed Achilles". ----------------------------------------------
