You are missing a very important point.
Greg Chappell is a very good person in making presentation. There was no way of judging him prior to his meeting. He was a great shrewd player and he made a good powerpoint presentation. Alas tom moody, amarnath or (i forgot his name) windies fellow couldn't make it. Ofcourse you cannot proove anything by making it on ppt. Its on the field that it counts.
Greg Chappell demonstrated what he was on the field. He seeked to discard opposition, starting with Sourav, the one person who could call a spade a spade, the kind of things that were said were extreme, showing his own mentality.
He then seeked to have a captain who would listen to him and go by what he thought. He found that in Dravid. I am not the conspiration theory holders though that say he came to ruin India, i think his ways of going about were fanciful and he wanted to go about it the way he liked it or the way things were in Australia. Ofcourse this is India and we don't have things like that.
You should remember that immediately after Sourav episode, a meeting was held which gavaskar attended, and media reports then suggested that he had no kind words from greg then. Unfortunately some initial wins playing at home and the fact that Sourav was initially injured and then so horribly out of form allowed him to go on.
But i have listened to Sunny for last 1 year, and not just him, many others, who have felt the same about greg chappell. You can't kick a man out before his contract(although i ask why not??)
To err is only human, foolish are those who carry on doing the same mistake and so i say that BCCI is foolish.
