Re: 220km in First Gear
Actually, the pic looks fake.... I somehow dont believe it.
If the engine had exploded like how the bonnet pic shows, it would not have been like how the engine pic shows...
The crankcase itself would have disintegrated.
But in the pics, the crankcase and engine block are still in one piece....
I think this is fake.

i guess the engine didnt explode. it just melted..
all the black gooey stuff must be the plastic/rubber parts used in the engine bay.
Edit:
(After reading Nikhil's edited post )
dont think the engine exploded. looks more like it melted. and the heat was high enough to melt the bonnet too

haha..... google to the rescue
Urban Legends Reference Pages: Gear Disaster
It just burnt.... it didnt explode .....
If the vehicle had been driven in first gear for so long, it would not have just burnt... it would have literally exploded as the gasket would have gone first and then if the engine was really really hot, the crankcase also would have a huge hole in it.

no need to put it into first gear..just put it in neutral, remove the radiators and redline the engine for few hours.the above pic looks fake..the engine parts looks intact and you wont get that much melted rubber under the bonnet unless the owner or who ever did it tried to make BBQ out of the tyres.
