Anyone read Prisoner of Birth?

Just finished the book, but I am a little confused by the ending. What exactly happens?

I didn't get what Craig said in the end "because a jury has already decided that your client doesn't have a leg to stand on".

Then they show the jeans, and in the next chapter, the 3 guys are on trial?

What exactly happened?
