Honestly i won't recommend any. Even for Sat, the best way to build vocab is by actually reading books. You build stronger much more "in use" vocab plus it doesn't feel like you are remembering that way.
Get hold of novels and newspapers, and have a dictionary handy and just puzzle out the difficult words(basically don't open dictionary every time, just find meaning in context)

If you don't wanna do all that i think the famous word list book is "WordPower" by Norman Lewis.

I agree..... you cant just improve your vocabulary like that.

Read newspapers (more so, the editorials. Especially The Hindu). Read non-fiction books (they have a higher level of English than the normal Jeffrey Archer)

read frontline magazine
actually even if you read novels it will be ok. Non fiction if you haven't read before will be boring for you.

Tell you what i started learning hindi by reading pinku and biloo comics hahahaa(that was in 4th standard )

Read the editorials. The rest of the newspaper is useless. Any newspaper.

Read editorials from The Hindu and TOI.

Make a note of the words you learn everyday and try to write blog posts using them. That way, you'll know where to use. I found it very useful.
