Gotta be kidding me. A Jet plane 'Missing'???

Air France told CNN the jet was making the 11-hour flight from Rio de Janeiro to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris when contact was lost.
Brazil's air force launched a search near the archipelago of Fernando de Noronha in the Atlantic Ocean, 365 km (226 miles) from Brazil's coast, the country's state media said.
Air France said flight AF447 was carrying 216 passengers in addition to a crew of 12. The plane is listed as an Airbus A330.
The airline said it "shared the emotion and the concern of the families concerned" adding that friends and relatives waiting at the airport would be taken to a special area.
A crisis center is being set up at Charles de Gaulle where the plane had been due to land at 11.15 a.m. local time.
"We are very worried," an aviation official told Agence France-Presse. "The plane disappeared from the screens several hours ago. It could be a transponder problem, but this kind of fault is very rare and the plane did not land when expected."

Seriously, whatever happened to the latest technology and everything. Cant even imagine what position the passengers/crew are in.

Previous incidents involving the French airline:

July 25, 2000 : All 109 passengers and crew and four people on the ground are killed when an Air France Concorde jetliner crashes after catching fire on take-off near Paris.

May 25, 2001 : An Air France Airbus 340 makes a crash landing at Cayenne airport in French Guiana, landing 30 metres too soon. No casualties.

July 6, 2005 : An Air France jet runs into a stray cow as it lands in the southern Nigerian oil city of Port Harcourt. No-one is injured in the incident.

Aug 2, 2005 : An Air France A340 passenger jet with up to 309 passengers and crew on board skids off the end of the runway and bursts into flames after landing in a thunder storm at Toronto's Pearson International Airport. No-one is killed, while 14 people suffer minor injuries.

Dec 17, 2005 : An Air France Boeing 777 makes an emergency landing at Irkutsk in Siberia when one of its two engines breaks down on a flight from Seoul to Paris. No casualties.

This increases my fear even more. I kinda have a fear when the vehicle i m travelling in (Bus, train, plane) passes above a water-mass. The trans-atlantic flights are torture for me. Just thinking about those passengers is bad for me.

Air France said in a statement the plane sent an automatic message reporting an electrical short-circuit at 0214 GMT, roughly 15 minutes after flying into the turbulence.

"There was very, very strong turbulence. For now we can't understand what happened," Borloo, the second most senior in the government, said on France Info radio.

"It's an awful tragedy. It's dreadful ... Until 10.45 a.m. (0845 GMT) we could still have some hope, but at this stage the kerosene reserves have been more than used up," Borloo added.

Thats worst man. plane crashing in middle of atlantic ocean in dark (Most of these flights, are scheduled in night). Dude... Not cool at all.

Its crashed by this time otherwise it would have to land somewhere by now since its fuel would have emptied and if its crashed in Atlantic then the probability of even finding the wreckage would be minimum
