yes but that does is no excuse for giving over your trademark for your stakeholder. Vodafone owns only 10% stake. Yes it has tie up for international market but that is no reason for having a .com domain.
there is obviously something thats not meeting the eye with this whole thing. I cannot think of any reason for airtel not launching legal proceedings to get the domain back(if at all it was taken over by vodafone.)

Consolidating its newly won control of Spain's No. 2 wireless phone company, the Vodafone Group said it had agreed to acquire 39 percent of Airtel from three sellers for about $8.4 billion in stock. When completed, the transactions will give Vodafone 74 percent of Airtel, ending a struggle with British Telecommunications to dominate the company; British Telecom owns 18 percent of Airtel and is represented on its board. Vodafone is acquiring 30.4 percent of Airtel from Banco Santander Central Hispano S.A.; 5.4 percent from Acciona S.A.; and 2.7 percent from Corporacion Financiera Alba S.A. Acciona retains 5.4 percent of Airtel and an option to swap it for more Vodafone stock.

Since Vodafone already had a share in airtel, and after taking over Hutch, it wont be a surprise if they do buy out Airtel and emerge as the single largest telecom service provider in india...

If n when tht happens, Reliance n tata will have a hard time coping up with the giant Vodafone.
Vodafone dont have much to do with brand building in india..its already a very big name in the world and it shows with the fan following ppl have for vodafone here in Mumbai.. Most of the teenagers n 20 somethings want to get the 'happening' brand..(though the prepaid n billing plans remain largely unchanged from the hutch days). But this move has only done good for the Essar group..a global brand has done what hutch cudnt do for a long time.

I checked their plans, n apart from the brand value, there isnt much tht they are providing. I'm quite happy with my Airtel billing connection. Thank you very much, vodafone.

VODAFONE needs infrastructure to provide service....which is what they are doing.
IMO it wont take much time for VODAFONE to reach on top......
