Ruling DMK workers and its supporters held demonstrations and burnt effigies of former BJP MP Ram Vilas Vedanti and senior BJP leader L K Advani across Tamil Nadu for the second day today protesting the VHP leader's alleged 'fatwa' against party supremo and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his anti-Ram remarks.

Though Karunanidhi yesterday said there would be no more protests against BJP, reports received from various parts of the state said DMK workers continued their protest against the party and Vedanti, who has, however, denied issuing any fatwa.

Besides the city, protests were held in Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem and Dindigul in the state and Union Territory of Puducherry.

State Agriculture Minister Veerapandi Arumugam led a procession to the RSS office in Salem and raised slogans against the Sangh parivar.

After the protest by DMK against Vedanti took a violent turn yesterday when party workers attacked the offices of BJP, VHP, Hindu Munnani and uprooted BJP flag posts in different places, Karunanidhi had said if at all there would be any protests tomorrow (today), 'it will be for the implementation of Sethusamudram project and not against BJP'.

In the city, a group of advocates owing allegiance to the ruling DMK burnt effigies of Vedanti and Advani outside the Madras High Court premises.

A group of Students of Madras Law College also burnt effigies of the two outside the premises of the college.

Members of Dalit Sena and DPI workers, led by its founder Thol Thirumavalavan set fire to Vedanti's effigies in two different busy localities.

A Madurai report said about 1,000 volunteers of the DMK held a demonstration there against Vedanti. They burnt a portrait of Advani, the BJP flag and an effigy of Vedanti.

They also said that their God was "Karunanidhi" and not "Ram" and warned they would 'cut the tongue of Vedanti'.
