[Debate] Are all religions same???

Dono whether i m creating a flame, but, nevertheless,

Many people say the base or all religions are same... but the rules are different. How come? Where did these religions came from? Why are we following them?? Do u believe in that all religions are same???

I'll get flamed for this.. .but I feel Religion is bullshit.

It is just another way of dividing people. I am supposed to be a Hindu Brahmin but I dont care.... I just believe in a GOD ( I am close to agnosticism...but not there yet ).

I honestly hate this whole religion, caste, sub-caste, sub-sub-sub-caste crap.

Makes me want to cry in frustration.

Millions of people killed in the name of relgiion. Millions more deprived in name of religion.

The fact of the matter is religions are different. Every religion has a common base, yes, but the god is not common. We can please ourselves as much as we want by saying that the creator is one, but even though thats the case, the religion preaches different gods. One can say that this is the case due to the people responsible for religion, the priests, pandas and mullahs, but if we go way back, its a case due to different types of people.
People way back prayed to different deities. There was never a common god. There were symbols that were widely different. And true to its "animalistic" characters, humans have tried to force their gods or beliefs on others of same type but lesser in power. The survival of the fittest is valid here also. Those who were powerful enforced their gods and beliefs on the lesser powerful ones throughout history. But that didn't mean that the lesser powerful religions vanished, they cam back in different forms, sometimes as a uniter of people against common enemy.
Whether we believe in it or not, at the end of the day, there are enough staunch supporters for any religion who want to protect and propagate it. Its happened for way too long to wish it away.

My opinion, Yes religions exist, all are different in the respect of the ways to achieve salvation vary. The gods are different. Even the preachings are.(yea all say peace, how many mean it? end of the day all aim to propagate their own religion) I don't care about peoples religion very often. However i do care when people kill themselves or others in name of it. eg i hate the jihad concept, a concept that exists as of now in its current interpretation. I hate the guys who claim to represent all of Hinduism but can't even mantain basic cleanliness of temples and themselves are found smoking drugs or the priests who use religion as a shield for sexual offenses.

Its a dirty world, its a antagonistic world, and its a world you cannot wish away.

^^ Well said by everyone before me, albeit a bit too strongly (by Nikhil). Also adding - Religion and Politics nowadays is one. YOu never know which one is controlling the other. Follow your religion to a certain extent, cause non-followers r conveniently termed/shown to be as pariahs. Other then that i beleive -

Everyone should worship Nature (Mother Nature) .. Seek inner happiness thru relaxation and meditation .. Try, maybe, yoga too.

You know its funny .... only today i had this big fight with my Mom over this religion thing. I for a fact DO NOT believe in any religion whatsoever. Sure i am a Hindu , I do follow some Hindu Principles , I do worship Hindu Gods , I do celebrate Hindu festivals but thats not because of my utter belief in the Hindu ideology , its because that is wat i have been taught all my life .... the thing u call sanskar.

When i look around this world it really makes me very sad. People being divided in the name of religion , people shedding innocent blood in the name of religion. I mean what the hell is religion ? As far as my understanding goes its the relation of human beings to God or the gods or to whatever they consider sacred. If thats the case then why the need to shed all that blood ? To divide people on the very basis of it ? For me Religion is my Love and devotion for my God and i don't fcuking care about anything else. And i sure in hell don't Judge people on the basis of it.

This question is like stirring a hornet's nest. If you ask a person from an Abrahamic faith, 95% chances are he/she'll surely answer in the negative. Followers of the 3 Indian religions( Buddhism is quite atheistic in view) will say yes, all religions are the same and God is one.

Personally, I believe God is one. I don't argue religion much though I have read the Gita and I give a damn to what other people follow.

though i was born a hindu, i havent followed it in any way to make my parents happy.. I dont follow any religion..nor do i wish to.. i'm a free bird in a free country..i dont want to be captured in the cage of any religion or belief...

I don't believe in religion. Since I'm normally too lazy to protest, I follow hindu traditions when required. Sometimes I wish everyone went back to the pagan ways. Those guys had got it right.

For those who say religion is the cause of all evils... well that is just plain silly. We'd have found something else to fight about if there weren't religion. As for all religions being the same, that is just plain bullcrap. How can they be? There are obvious enough differences... all that "sameness" is just stuff we tell ourselves in the hope that somehow it makes us less likely to fight. That is dumb. What we need to learn to do is accept that other religions do exist, they are different.
