to be fair, if you go by singing then the other version(saregamapa) has better singers.

Other than a couple of people on this versions Indian idol, no one else looks like a guy who will set the stage on fire. And the choice of judges is not that good. Indian Idol targets to find performers, people with attitude and the present lot of judges are nowhere suitable. Jaaved Akhtar is way too old, Udit Narayan doesn't have an opinion, or if he has he can't express it. Either way he comes across as a guy who is misfit for idol(maybe for the other show he might have been better). Alisha looks great but is a poor match. And Anu Malik's absenteeism has certainly not helped at all.

Bottomline the last years judges expressed a bit of youthness which was the idea of Indian Idol. Its just not been the same after the first version.

Though i dont watch any of these shows, but from what i've read and known, Zee's Sa Re Ga Ma challenge has better singers competing for the title..and they make overall better singers and not just a one album wonder like these 'idols'...

The whole show is Damn scripted ... so wats the point ? Another thing which i absolutely hate abt the show is that its a complete rip-off of the western version. I agree saregamapa has better singers , much better judges and is much much better scripted although i don't watch it either.

the idol is a licensed show run all over the world even in the east
The concept is good, plus the name makes it "Indian" in true sense. The execution though is not very good this time.

About scripted, well the judge comments have always been scripted and nowhere more than in saregamapa. They have mock fights there

Yea and that i gues is more fun to watch .... I happen to watch one episode of saregamapa in which asha Bhosle mimicked Hemesh Reshmiya n Himesh as usual bust into fumes .... ahh .... dat was priceless

Now i am not against the concept of this show ... infact the first show was such a big hit and i personally loved it but since then it has lost all its charm , the judges have become worse , the singers worser and the scripting too artificial to believe. I m glad it has a strong competition in its time slot. Fun Loving people like me will obviously tune in to Laughter Challenge and save ourselves from listening to some horrible singing

far from the scripting getting worse, the judges have (ok wait, the judges have infact become better in true sense but for the show thats not exactly a good thing)
