IIT Delhi sacks SC/ST students
New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, (IIT-Delhi) may be heading for a messy quota controversy.
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes has sought an explanation from the director of the institute after 12 undergraduate SC/ST students were asked to leave because of poor performance.
The 12 students have told the commission they were discriminated against and instead of being given special coaching they were asked to attend extra curricular activities.
A student has alleged that a professor at the institute told him said he wasn't doing well in his studies because he was from the SC/ST category.
“We will investigate the students’ allegations and then make a decision,” said Buta Singh, chairperson of the SC/ST Commission.

If they werent performing well, Good riddance!!
SOmetimes these **$&%*^%)# come under some sort of quota and then just fkuc about in college not doing anything. No one dares say anything to them because they always threaten to go public and say they are being discriminated against.
FOr once IIT-D seems to have taken the correct stand. I applaud them !!

It is unfortunate that 12 of those 20 students belong to the SC/ST
It is not that only SC?ST students have been asked to leave. The majority of them are SC/ST, and if its truly done on performance basis then i don't see any problem in this.

Truth will eventually come out. You can't suppress truth for long. I know for a fact that not all SC/ST fellows deserve their seats in reputed institutions. But IIT delhi, I was under the impression people with high cutoff eventually make it. Isn't that true?
OT: BTW, showing complete hatred towards such people(students who really don't deserve reservation) can be misunderstood as complete hatred towards the community. Thats what i am trying to say.

I hope they tried their best to bring those guys upto the level before taking the step.
I am a supporter of need based quota's(especially economic) but am not a supporter of making people do things when they don't want to.
Its happening everywehere, IIT, IIM and soon in private jobs and colleges.
(Yep elections coming and high inflation means congress needs something to divert attention. )
