Protestors of the Hindu Rashtriya Sena on Monday attacked the offices of television channel Star News in Mumbai.

The protestors, angered that the channel had aired the grievance of a couple -- a 23-year-old Muslim boy and a 16-year-old Hindu girl -- who had eloped from Surat, claiming that their parents were harassing them.

The protestors beat up security guards and damaged many cars. A protestor hit a security guard on the chest with a hammer. The guard had to be rushed to a nearby hospital.

The police said 18 people were detained.

"These men barged in with saffron flags and hammers. They started smashing the windscreens and tail lamps of vehicles. They also threw a hammer at us. But luckily, we escaped," said an employee.

On Thursday, the couple had ridden directly to the offices of Star News, after which the police arrested the boy -- identified as Kadir Khan -- on charges of kidnapping a minor girl. The girl was sent back to Surat.

PTI adds:

Condemning the attack, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that it was that of "cowards" and against democracy.

They should have courted arrest or registered their complaint, he said.

Our of that 1 billion, only abt 400 million are youngsters.

Out of that, majority live in the rural areas and they dont give a damn. we people living in the urban areas are exposed to the news and all the things happening in our country. So, we are concerned.

Trust me, unless the rural people wake up, nothing will happen.

and I dont see that happening anytime because so many of them are illiterate.

when it will come to it, we will look here and there to see who is taking the plunge. How are we bothered with what happens to a muslim man and a women(which frankly is no ones bother, most idiotic incident gets prime time coverage in India. If your parents don't agree to something, you sort it out within the family, not on damn news channels, which incidentally wanted publicity anyway)

The power of we btw is useful when everyone agrees with you(the majority that is. I seriously doubt that on any issue in India majority agrees with anything. From reservation, to abu salem(yes 2 days back on ndtv, they were showing some village, muzzaffar something, where everyone thinks he is a hero inspite of what he did and want to elect him) So in a democracy there is little you can do. what we feel right is not right for a lot many others.

Well.. Yes... But if they do not agree with you,you gotta convince them... Take my words... In the begining, people will oppose any idea proposed... That is the mind-set. It requires skills of a leader to convince people, to make them trust in the concept.

M. K. Gandhi was the man who possessed such skill... Remember, at the time when he came up with idea of non-violence, a few people had faith in it...

At that time, the problem was with the religious believes of ignorant people. And in today's case, particularly, for the literate side of society, the problem is that everyone believes he/she is 100% right... We should learn to respect truth of others.. Because, Truth is relative.
