Veteran Tamil Actor Manorama says that couples should be made to take potency tests before getting married.

Manorama says it should be made compulsory for both men and women to produce medical certificates before getting married and in the case of the groom the certificate should prove that he is sexually potent.

"There should be a certification that he is potent and he doesn't have HIV. In case of women... she is a woman and she's fertile and does not have AIDS. And if the doctor gives a fake certificate, then he should be jailed," said Manorama.

Impotency, in most cases, comes to light only after a couple are married, said Manorama who was moved by the plight of a young girl who a few weeks ago sought Rs 1 crore as compensation from her husband who was allegedly impotent, but had been married off with the full knowledge of his condition by his parents. She has also filed a police complaint against him.

Imagine the girl gets married, but is unable to conceive. Or if the child dies during pregnancy? Would she then be brought to court?

Quite a valid argument actually.
This is what happens when you think of drafting laws from only one perspective(in this case the protagonist only thought of the women's point of view).

I hope they take a broader view of things if they think of drafting this into a law.

Are you telling me married guys are machos and studs are impotent? C'mon! How uninformed can that be? People get married because of their insecurities -- somehow they have difficulty finding partners or they are afraid of the consequences should they fail to conform with the standards set for the follower herd. In fact, everyone delays getting married as much as they can, in the name of 'having fun' or getting more of their 'free single life'.

Marriage, thus, is a compromise.
