What it means is this. If a general category student gets 90% and is the last person to be admitted, then a reserved category student can only make it(or take his place) if his percentage is 80%.
In case seats are left vacant, the seats will go back to general quota.
The court believes this will ensure a level of talent in all institutions.
A very good move if its passed although i feel a lot of hue and cry will be made when it comes to it. Will be interesting to see what the government says. ---------------------------------------------- |

All this while, all the government has been doing is appease the sections of the society who have learnt to misuse the reserved category quota for their benefit. Even people from a sound family background, but belonging to the reserved category, misuse this facility given for the benefit of the truly needy people.
Atleast the general candidate students will get their deserving seats in good colleges now.I hope they implement it as soon as possible, all over india. But i'm sure, this is going to raise a lot of hue n cry among those affected.. I just hope this verdict doesnt get stuck in red tape, and as a result take ages to get implemented..
Quota system just sucks.. Perform and fight if u have the balls. I'm especially against any form of quota in the medical colleges. Its literally nothing less than playing with the lives of people.. |

Which is precisely why the government will, in all probability say "We have taken note of the court's observations give some nebulous reply on the 29th and do nothing.
There is no way that they will accept a "compromise" formula so close to the elections especially when the Quota and Nuke Deal are all they have to show as acheivements of their present term. |

As soggy said, most probably nothing will happen. The government is looking to give concessions this time of its term rather than take them away

They wouldn't want to screw it up now, but maybe after they get back to power (which i hope they would )

It will have to look for support from Left again, and god forbid might even have to depend on Mayawati.
Most probably we are going to look at a fractured mandate. BJP might still come to power, especially if SP switches sides
Its the same with BJP

Coalition politics is bound to stay here for long.
Recently one BJP leader (iirc Rajnath Singh or Murli Manohar Joshi) went on record to say that BJP alone can not form government and coalition is the way to go.
Advani yesterday commented that he is feeling lonely in absence of Vajpayee. Whatever he does he can not replace Vajpayee and his statesmanship.
BJP is looking forward to chiranjeevi in andhra, karnataka may also go in their favour a little bit. MP, Chhatisgarh, Gujarat, Punjab are better bets for them.
Delhi, Rajasthan, UP, Bihar, Tamilnadu, WB where anti-incumbancy factor will play a major role.
I feel forthcoming will form a horribly hung parliament or a thin majority for congress. I will prefer congress over hoarse traders any day. But still my hopes are for BJP hope they come back again in power. |

Amar Singh had met him recently and he had objected openly to both BJP and congress.
Imo BJP stands to gain a lot in the forthcoming elections but if they don't the only reason would be cos they have not a good leadership(i mean second rung leaders)
There is hardly a new face in BJP. All old hawks and old bottles. I mean i don't even see Sushma Swaraj these days. Jaitley is as usual good at making statements but no people base. One look at BJP's Lok Sabha leaders will show that barring Advani, and Malhotra, they didn't have even a single good speaker for the debate.
