I think the quotas will be a good thing simply because they will give some people the "opportunity" to have a better future for themselves, their families, and their children and grandchildren.

The sections from the high caste speak a lot about "merit", I too am from what you call the "high caste" or "upper caste" of India, so dont take this as critizism....

But I can give you very real examples of scores and scores and high class students who just take admission in colleges to pass time. They come to college on bikes or cars, they talk about with girls, skip all their lectures, and go back after having a fun day of learning nothing.
It is really much better that some poor child who studies under the street lights gets admission instead of someone from the "high class" for whom college is just fun.

The word u have to watch out for is poor. You cannot judge whether someone is poor or not by the caste. The quotas if should be given, would have been fair if it was for Economically backward and not backward through caste

I think it is fair to say that in India the backward cast are still backwardly poor.
And althugh I hate to say this, its only the upper caste to blame.

There are very deliberate attempts by the upperclass to keep the backward classes down, they go as far as practicing untouchabality. This makes reservations even more important, because the uppercaste will not on not give the OBCs their right, but they will even make attempts to take it away.

If the reservations work out as plan, then maybe in few decades from now we will have dalits and bhramins working together and eating together and the words "dalit" and "bhramin" will not mean anyything anymore, and that is when India will truely start progressing.

The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.

No body can deny this fact. Thou having reservation is gonna deny the bright students from the upper caste a chance of getting a seat from these institutions, it is going to help the ones who really NEED HELP. Some might say, many students who don't deserve to be there might get a chance, but then, whats wrong in helping people who need to be pushed?

Seriously not many bother about the lower caste folks. The upper caste blokes can survive on their own no matter what. I don't know whether it is good or bad that they were born in the upper caste community, they have got more than what those lower caste folks got all these years. It is hightime we bridge the gap and give more chance for the ppl in lower caste to stand equal with other caste people.

Btw, once these blokes come up in life, they will have the will to help people from their caste better than the ones from upper caste. Cos they understand their pain more.

It actually sucks to keep typing the word 'caste' for so long. I so want this to be erased from our system 50 years from now. Yes, it is a long way to go.

Reservations were implemented by B R Ambedkar (whose b'day it is today) for 10 years. These goddamned criminals and rowdies(who are the best actors in the world.... they have pretended to be our national leaders and politicians for 62 yrs) have just exploited the people of our country.

Our country is doomed. I am even ashamed to call it My country. I used to take pride in calling myself an Indian and not a Kannadiga or a Hindu or a Brahmin at one time.

I am so disgusted, if there was an opportunity, I would just leave the farking country. I cant and unfortunately being the thinking person I am, have to see this once great country go to the dogs.

Exams suck !!!

How is it going to do so? The plan is to increase the capacity of the colleges to include the obc studetents, they are not going to reduce the number of general category seats.
They have not been gifted with riches from heaven. They are rich because their parents or grandparents struggled and worked really hard. If you want to work hard and save lot of money so that your children and grandchildren can lead a comfortable life, is that bad? There are many people who work more for their family and less for themselves, so if a father wants to work hard to give his children a good comfortable life, I dont think that is very bad.

I think the only way to counter castism is education, but unfortunately casticism gets in the way of education.
I really think India should push the OBCs and other minorities forward. I want India's history to be written such that the rich and uppercaste have worked hard and even probably sacrificed for their less-priviliged lowercaste brothers and sisters. Such kinds of attitudes make a country great, and it will help both the higher and lower caste in the future.

Yes, go to UK and sell newspapers there and make India more proud.
