Worldwide criticism of China over Tibet has meant that there are strong protests all over the world where ever the torch has been. The Press Association: London protest over Olympic torch Hundreds of Free Tibet campaigners are expected on the streets of London on Sunday as the Olympic torch relay passes through the city on its 31-mile route from Wembley stadium to the O2 Arena in Greenwich.
The Metropolitan Police said four protesters were arrested on Saturday. Police were alerted to reports of two men climbing the side of Westminster Bridge. "The two men erected a banner and were removed by officers," she said. "A further two protesters were arrested."
And Today Paris has seen massive protests with the torch even getting extinguished Online NewsHour: Update | Olympic Torch Relay Marred by Protests | April 7, 2008 | PBS Officials were forced to extinguish the Olympic torch twice Monday as protests against China's human rights record and its rule of Tibet turned a relay through Paris into a scene of disruption.
At least two activists got within almost an arm's length of the torch and one tried to throw water on the flame before he was grabbed by police, The Associated Press reported. Security officials had to twice extinguish the torch for "technical reasons" -- and put it on a bus one time -- due to the raucous demonstrations.
A police source told Reuters that organizers were forced to put the torch on a bus to protect it from the hundreds of protesters who swarmed the relay route after the Eiffel Tower.

While the Chinese are coming to India to inspect security with India having the maximum Tibet population Chinese officials are coming here next week to work out foolproof security for the Olympic torch here but Indian officials say they can very well protect the games’ symbol on their own. India Monday assured China that it was committed to providing security to the Olympic torch as it passes through its territory April 17, notwithstanding fears of street protests by Tibetans.
Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma clarified that the government has not got any proposal that the Chinese wanted to provide security to the torch procession in India.
“There is no proposal as such. Indian security agencies are capable of ensuring safety of the Olympic torch relay,” Sharma told reporters here.
“We will give due respect to the torch and are committed to providing security to the torch.
We should boycott the whole torch relay run frankly ---------------------------------------------- |

So many people would have worked hard to participate in this event and to just call off is to kill their dreams and aspirations.

I know the arguments being made to not involve politics, but tell me where it hasn't been involved. Heck we have had politics in cricket too.

War on China? How about you and yammy doing a Vulgarrrr
But anyway i can understand why India is quiet. We want to speak but we can't for the obvious references it will bring out in some other issue. But our neighbor has no choice. They have to speak in favour of China, no matter if what they say is contrary to the very things they say in some other parts Naa gharke, na ghat ke

He'll raise a hue and cry about anything in India (and I don't entirely disagree with that), but here he is ready to put aside all qualms and suggestions thereof.. basically shows what I thought along, the guy just drums up controversy for publicity. | | |
