Read this in the Indian Express today:
Two girls in love with one man; one acts smart, arrested
Of note are the following two passages:
Phulari told Pune Newsline on Saturday that the complainant received numerous obscene messages, phone calls and emails following her profile posting on Orkut which damaged her image in public. The accused had even hacked the e-mail password of the complainant and as a result all mails of the complainant were under constant surveillance of the accused.”
I find this strange because
1) If the victim has good friends then they know that the allegations of obscene things are not true and would prevent any ill thing from spreading
2) One can simply disclaim an online identity. After all, one doesn't really need to be the same online as in real life. She/He can claim that it was a behaviorial trait adopted to keep stalkers and unwanted people away.
Anyway, this is not the bigger issue, but rather the below statement:
Meanwhile, the city police have sought a ban on Orkut and other websites on grounds of “increased incidents of obscene postings and hatred promotion” by internet communities taking place at regular intervals. “The proposal to block Orkut is in the pipeline and a final decision will taken soon,” Phulari said.
Some isolated nonsense happens and soon everyone says ban Orkut.....When will these idiots realise that such things are part of life - just as good exists, so shall evil.....Its not like every Orkut user gets flooded everyday with hate messages and invitations to "something sux" communities......In real life also we see so many bad things and good things happening every day. And yet these people don't have a problem with that. Just one little harmless post somewhere and somewhere a bomb explodes in someone's brain
