OK if partiotism didn't help at all during the freedom struggle, pray telling me some other sentiment that invokes the same amount of zest, enthusiasm etc to achieve freedom. I can't think of a more powerful tool........

However shallow it may seem, the need for safety, comfort and convenience is the most effective driving force behind human aspirations.
^^ i know but if freedom were that much of a driving force for a nation then we wouldn't be ruled over by others in the first place. Safety, comfort and convenience have been reduced to personal levels where no one bothers beyond ones personal boundaries. Exactly the reasons the Britishers ruled over us for so many years.
