Sanjay Dutt guilty under Arms Act; faces 5 years
A TADA court in Mumbai on Tuesday convicted actor Sanjay Dutt in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.
The minimum sentence for the charges under which Dutt has been found guilty is five years.
He has spent almost 18 months in jail as an undertrial.
While the court found Dutt guilty under the Arms Act, it acquitted the actor of the criminal conspiracy charges under TADA.
The court found him guilty of charges framed under the Sections 3 and 7 read with Section 25 of the Arms Act.
The court acquitted him of charges framed under Section 120-b of the Indian Penal Code (conspiracy) and Section 3 (3) of TADA.
Dutt received three AK-56 rifles, its ammunition, 9 mm pistol, its cartridges and hand grenades, which were part of the consignment smuggled by Tiger Memon to set off a series of blasts in Mumbai on March 12, 1993.

Pretty sad. But at least he got off on the bigger charge of conspiracy. In a way, I guess this is finally justice served but in our country it is so hard to know whether justice is really served or not.

Re: Sanjay Dutt guilty under Arms Act; faces 5 years
SANJAY DUTT NOT A TERRORIST
Giving out the verdict against actor Sanjay Dutt in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, the Judge Pramod Kode said Dutt is not a terrorist and that he had got the rifles in order to protect his family.
Soon after the Judge pronounced Dutt guilty under the Arms Act, the actor ventured to say something. The judge gestured at Dutt to hold on and said, "He is not a terrorist."
Dutt had procured three AK 56 rifles and a hand gun from those people who were plotting the blasts, that killed close to 300 people.
There are also chances that Sanjay Dutt will get bail before evening.
His lawyers said they will apply for bail right away and that he might be out on bail before Wednesday evening.
It is also said that, for the sections of the Arms Act under which Dutt is convicted, the punishment could be either a one-year jail term, or a jail term anywhere between three to five years.

I know.... I remembered you when I was posting this. I wanted to add a comment like "Bluffy will be heartbroken" or something but forgot
But he may get bail today itself. I hope he does. Maybe he can clear up some of the movies he has taken on...

Re: Sanjay Dutt guilty under Arms Act; faces 5 years
he will most likely get 3 years imprisonment.
out of which whatever time he spent as undertrial prisoner (14 / 18 months whatever) will be deducted.
he is convicted but the punishment is still to be declared which will be done after complete judgement.
so as he is acquitted of the conspiracy part which is a great relief in itself he is allowed to seek bail till the things get over.
after which he can apply to higher court and the show goes on... 13 more years in high court, then few more in revision bench and then 13 more in supreme court.
by that time he may even be off to heaven or hell.

Re: Sanjay Dutt guilty under Arms Act; faces 5 years
He is not going back to prison.
The minimum punishment for offense under section 7 of arms act is about 5 years and max 10 yrs (credits to the idiot box). So basically according to letter of the law he should go to prison for atleast another 3 years.
But i am mighty sure - our Judicial system is healthy and skewed enough for him to never walk into a prison again.
This would drag on for some more time if CBI decides to appeal the judgment in supreme court for his acquittal under TADA but then don't think that will ever happen.
The crux of today's judgment is he was unaware of Bombay Blasts and was just a innocent youngster who lost his way and did all this for protecting his family and its honor. Bravo.
Bollywood can finally heave a sigh of relief
