Consider that you have a time machine and you can go back to any period in the past and to any place on earth(earth is important ) then where would you want to be?
Before you respond consider the following questions
1) Why would you want to live in that period?
2) Why would you want to live in that particular region of earth during that period
3) Would you be willing to live the full life span of yours in the place you decided above? You cannot change this
4) What benefits you will get over what you have now, or/and what hardships will you face.
Imo implicit to this question would be your level in society. Obviously you can't imagine yourself to be promoted as king in your time travel back. So when you answer think of yourself and your living status and societal status of a level thats similar to what it is now ---------------------------------------------- |

I would like to live in stone ages, only to experience the raw and brutal nature in its real glory. And to convince fellow stonemen to stay away from any kind of material development. Europe would be my choice, of course, because of the vast amount of nudist camps they had there, even then. I would gladly part with my cloths and technology, for it'd of no use during that time. As for my social and living status - I would still be an arrogant, over-confident, self-centered loner guru for the rest of the pack.
I would also choose to be with Alexander, Caesar and Napoleon during their time on this planet - and for various reasons. I would live and die with Che Guevara. I would be in Egypt at the time those giant pyramids and Sphinx were being built.
Last, but not the least, I would go back (t-0) in time, creating an endless loop - and eventually crashing the whole time-space continuum - landing me in the midst of Singularity. I would have attained Nirvana then.

That being said, I 'll make other uses of the time machine, like go back and buy some gold and then bring that back with me... |

What good is the Time-Machine if you are stuck in the past and cannot return to the present ? I would travel only if I could return to my present life. Also what you didn't make clear is that when I travel back in time, my mind will still be in 2008, right ? I mean i would take with me the knowledge of all the world events that have happened in the Past. In that case, that will turn me into a messiah. I would travel say 10-20 years back and predict the future accurately. I will also help India win atleast one cricket world cup
Other then recent Past, I would like to travel to the pre-freedom Era. I would love to see up close our freedom fighters like bhagat singh and Mahatama Gandhi. Maybe I'll become a freedom fighter too and I will try my best to stop the India-Pakistan partition.
Actually more then the concept of a Time Machine, what interests me most is the concept of Pre-life or Pichla janam (if there is one ) I would love to see up close what my life was like in my previous lives. |

I would also like to go back to the ages where the pyramids were built. But certainly I would have rebelled against slavery

I'll take all the gold i can get my hands on go to the year 1982 and give it to my dad and buy lots of lands in and around chennai and give him some business tips (my dad had a huge loss in his startup a year before i was born ) and some other usefull information which won't bring any adverse effect on our family.
That is aside, i would love to roam around the time lines to see how the world was during each period .

I have always been a man of the medieval Europe Aand so i would love to be born up and to control a Manor
Now no this is not a lifestyle upgrade Manorism was a lowest unit of territory in the feudal system of that period and the lowest level of gentry families (i can take the liberty of equating the mid-middle class to them ) had one
A fortified castle like home, with open farm land and control over my area would be so
I reproduce the description of a ideal manor house He received also a sufficient and handsome hall well ceiled with oak. On the western side is a worthy bed, on the ground, a stone chimney, a wardrobe and a certain other small chamber; at the eastern end is a pantry and a buttery. Between the hall and the chapel is a sideroom. There is a decent chapel covered with tiles, a portable altar, and a small cross. In the hall are four tables on trestles. There are likewise a good kitchen covered with tiles, with a furnace and ovens, one large, the other small, for cakes, two tables, and alongside the kitchen a small house for baking. Also a new granary covered with oak shingles, and a building in which the dairy is contained, though it is divided. Likewise a chamber suited for clergymen and a necessary chamber. Also a hen-house. These are within the inner gate.
Likewise outside of that gate are an old house for the servants, a good table, long and divided, and to the east of the principle building, beyond the smaller stable, a solar for the use of the servants. Also a building in which is contained a bed, also two barns, one for wheat and one for oats. These buildings are enclosed with a moat, a wall, and a hedge. Also beyond the middle gate is a good barn, and a stable of cows, and another for oxen, these old and ruinous. Also beyond the outer gate is a pigstye. http://www.ucalgary.ca/applied_histo...dot/manor.html
