Thumbs Up Working women! Future of India?

This topic is hot and I would love to see a lot of ppl dropping in to discuss. Women of the 20th and 21st century have EVOLVED(as they say) into a term ppl use to refer to them of late, "Working Women". This is a wonderful sign to the women community and I totally appreciate and support this notion of working women.

"No change can come about without side effects", and this new evolution isn't different either. The relationship between HE and SHE and the family ties and bonding are some of the notable factors that have had negative effects as far as i see. For the positive side to this change, one can go thru this article from CNN IBN.

We are here to chit chat about the positive and negative effects. How Man and Woman should understand this new change which is good for both and bad for both? Chip in folks

Let me begin my argument about the fact that children of late are not getting the same amount of love that we used to get as children. When man and his wife go to work, the children are left home alone or if they are lucky, some have their grand parents to stick around to spend time with. Most of them are prone to loneliness and this can have severe side effects. In the long run, this can also mean that the family value system of india would be known as SOMETHING that belonged to the 20th century.

^I have an exactly similar scenario in my family...my sis is married and has a 9 year old kid..but she is also working in an IT company here in Mumbai and my Bro in law in a FMCG MNC...both are very very dedicated to their work and thts why they have to leave my nephew at our place all day long and my Mom has to take care of his studies, taking him to school and bringing him back and everything else thru out the day.. Sometimes i feel bad for her as she doesnt get enuf rest bcso of tht little devil..
Now the problem is tht kid simply doesnt want to study.. he just wants to watch tv and play... MY mom does her level best to make him study but still he is not interested..all this is bcos his parents are so busy with their professional lives..so much so tht they do not have time for their kid...what is going to be the end result? What future will he have if he is not serious with his studies? Agreed they are working hard for him only, but the negligence of both the parents in taking care of his upbringing is going to cost them later..i shudnt say this as they are my family members, but this is what is happening..
I have a simple logic..if u want to pursue ur career and earn lotsa money, steer clear of expanding ur family...and if u want to have a family, some one has to make a compromise..how long are grandparents going to look after the child?
They too have their own life and shudnt be taken for granted..

Its not easy to have the best of both worlds...in the pursue for family and career, some compromise has to be reached..

Interesting point Ryan. However one has to understand the women to is a human being after all. They too should have the liberty to break free and I see nothing wrong in women going to office. The point you made is by far true but may not be true in all the cases. I remember my friend's parents were working and still he managed to top the class, so much so that he would be disappointed had he not scored 100/100 in mathematics. His mom used to teach him in the evenings and he always used to finish exercises even before they were thought in school. So i think if a woman manages to work without actually compromising with her family there shouldn't be any issues. One must not forget that women is the most important factor in building a better society.

I agree with both of you
Sure she has an identity. She needs to work and have a life for herself. But many do not understand the balance they need to hit. Like PR said, what u gonna do earning so much when the big price back home is wasting his life? You can't have your cake and eat it too. Not sure how exactly that statement can be applied here

My mom works. My dad works. I used to spend days alone in my house, but i realized my parents struggled so hard for me and my brother. Still my mom would work so hard to spend time with us. She is a teacher
Of late, women's prof is equal to men. So the time factor is so damn huge. Some women spend 12 - 14 hours in office to wait on support calls. Damn

PR made a lovely statement, that a compromise has to me made. Are women and men ready for that? Some working women are afraid that they will lose their independence if they quit their job. I've heard some saying that to me. At the same time, are men ready to stay at home like it happens in daddy's day care?

Are extremely successful women ready to marry men who aren't equal in profession or livelihood? Women are so proud, atleast some are proud they either they seek a man whose education level is either equal or higher than theirs. I despise such things! A few boy friends of mine were infact ready to be house husbands

All said and done, I see the negative effects of this change to cause more harm. This has another serious effect in relationships. That argument coming up soon

^Well..Loki..times are changed... there is a stark difference between the kids of our times and the kids of today... They get everything more readily these days..so they take things for granted.. parents give in to their demands more easily these days than in our times.. i'm never against women working...its the need of the day..infact if i evr get married(evr is an important word here.. ), i'll see to it tht my wife (bechari.. ) is working just like me... Afterall 2 earning hands in a house is always better than one cos money is never enuf..
(Afterall, who'll pay the bills for my PC upgrades... ) But yeah, then i'll prefer not to have a kid and ruin his/her and our lives... Neways, i seriously dont like kids.. So thts just another excuse not to have one...
I hope other ppl will stop contributing to the growing population of india too...i want to see a time in india when they'll give compensations to families to have kids (just like they do in japan and other countries with low population.. )
Alas, tht'll always remain a dream here in india..the graph of population is only going higher..

^^ If govt says they will give compensation for familes with just 1 kid. Ppl will make kids but ON RECORD only 1 will be their kid. That will happen! and our govt won't give money so easily

Okay not deviating from the topic. What do u guys think it about its effect on family?

^ Ryan you've just spawned a new argument on fatherhood

Yeah, in today's age money matters and most of women understand that these days. After all most of the parents are working coz they want to give all they could to their kids. I wrote my IELTS and got a descent score and also got a seat in University of melbourne for my MS. But i couldn't persue my studies just because 20 lakhs per annum was too much for me to arrange. As a father I would never like my children to face the same scenario and if my wife helps me build my financial status then i would certainly won't mind. This doesn't mean that i the girl i am gonna marry has to work, but if she wishes to work i am not gonna stop her.
