4 foreign players in IPL or more?

A lot of coaches are demanding that the limit on only 4 foreign players in IPL be hiked to 6 or atleast 5. That way the teams would be able to field a good squad and a lot of foreign players who are otherwise very good, will get an opportunity to play also.

I kind of agree. Else with the current 8 teams, every team has atleast 3 world class players sitting on the bench WHy waste so much of cash. Imo atleast 5 foreign players must be allowed. It will enrich the sport and make it more global. Actually even 6 ain't that bad an idea

About the logic of such a league not looking like an Indian league, well imo the IPL should try to fit in blokes of that region/city for the Indian players and it will still remain very much Indian. As such the idea should be to move towards a "club" culture where the team is of city/club irrespective of nationality

i dont personally think it will benefit indian cricket in any way.

the way there is no communication between foreign and indian players inbetween games and in dressing room (yes with referances to fakeiplplayer).

if its to happen then the club culture has to go on whole season long.

More foreign players wont serve the purpose within this six weeks window period in present format.

No one here is least bothered about Indian cricket. As such this isn't helping Indian cricket also. 20-20 players are not automatically good ODI/Test players.

So while you are at it, why not get more foreign players and make the games more intresting. It would mean better chases and more entertainment and one can watch the best in the world play

I completely agree with u safin...but on the other hand why our Desi players r not that much capable enuf to play well???
and why to have so many high ranking foreign players in the team, when u know only restricted No can play at a time.
But taking mor and more foreign players in a team whether they r playing or sitting on a bench proves the poor playing capability of our plyers. Like this time SRK gave his team captaincy to a foreign player. even Malya did the same thing. Though such kind of changes didnt improve the team's performance. May be its our Mental satisfaction to have more Gora/Foreign players/captains

Fortunately or unfortunately 20-20 is the future of cricket. We all the saw the kind of response Test matches got after the first IPL. No one in my friend circle including me even bothered to check the scores let alone watch the test matches. 20-20 is here to stay and is very soon going to be recognized as a main stream cricket.

Granted that bowlers are on the receiving end in a 20-20 match, but that trend will slowly change with time as more and more bowlers will adapt themselves to the 20-20 environment.

As far as the selection of more then 4 overseas players are concerned, I am against it. It is called the Indian Premier league afterall. Yes, more overseas players will mean more entertainment but at what price? As proven, our local players have the capability to outperform the overseas players in all the departments, then what is the need of including more international players other then ofcourse making the team more famous?

But from an entertainment point of view, this move can do wonders for the IPL. I as a viewer will welcome this change but as a patriotic cricket lover it just doesn't make sense to me.

^^ What about English Premier league in football then? Its still "English" right

See the point is, players are playing for money. And for their cities. Really this not about some social service to improve homegrown talent(in which case wth is Dhoni doing playing for Chennai )

Why the Hypocrisy then? Let the players be bought for money. At the end of the day, support will be from the cities and if they don't do well, they will be sacked. Seriously this is not an exercise to find some home grown talent


And imo test cricket will always remain. ALl players love it and imo purists love it also Test match can be fun also (especially say Ashes or in the Caribbean)
ODI cricket, imo is gonna soon be extinct

numbers of players should really be increased but then Indian cricket would get less benefit
