It will be held in India between October 8 and October 23 2009.The tournament is an international Twenty20 cricket competition between clubs from India, Australia, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and West Indies.The winners will earn around USD $6m.
The Twenty20 Champions League is chaired by Lalit Modi, who is the Chairman and Commissioner of the Indian Premier League and Vice-President of the BCCI.
The first edition was set to take place from late September to early October 2008 in India, after the tournament organisers resolved various teething problems that had put the inaugural tournament under some doubt,but it was later announced that the tournament would be held from December 3 to December 10, 2008.The tournament was postponed again following terrorist attacks in Mumbai in November 2008 and later cancelled,with the first tournament now scheduled for October 2009. Indian mobile service Bharti Airtel has bought the title sponsorship rights of the champions league for the reported amount of Rs.170 crores. Qualified Teams Airtel Champions League Twenty20 2009 would consist of 12 teams from 7 countries. The qualifiers are: * The winners, runners-up and third placed team of the Indian Premier League in IndiaDECCAN CHARGERS

There will be a total of 23 matches and the teams will be divided into Four Groups of three each to play on a league basis before the Top Two teams from each group move on to the second stage.The four top teams from there will play the semi-finals and the top two teams will play FINAL on Oct 23rd at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad. Hope Sehwag recovers on time. Cape cobras would have been the favorites if they had Greame Simth leading the side. NSW Blues looks strong on paper too, and for me Otago volts are the dark horses.

Its not as if in football where you have a culture of clubs. We don't even associate with local teams here. Now we have even foreign teams coming over. Imo they will do better if they do a football style home and away game system for the trophy. No one will watch foreign clubs playing otherwise.
Its not a surprise gherefore that bcci is giving 'discounts' to students  to promote the sport
