> Chappell supporters?

So now that we have had 1+ year under chappell, how many of you think that he is actually a good coach? Or how would you rate him.

Points to be considered.

1) India's wins and losses (In ODI we won against England, Sri Lanka at home, won comprehensivly against pakistan in pakistan, drew with SA at home and lost comprehensively to windis in windies, In tests, we managed to scrpe through 1-0 in windies, drew with england at home and won against sri lanka.

2) Some of the spearheads in balling are no longer spearheads, (eg irfan)

3) While there is a tendency to look at new players, the form of the older players is ghastly, Sehwag fires like once in a blue moon, tendulkar is injured half of the time, comes back to "endulkar" headlines scores a century then goes out of form (lets see if this its different) And the rest of the seniors have been kicked out never to be considered even if they do well (zaheer)

4) Flexible batting lineup .. no one is secure, cuts both ways. dunno what way it has cut for the indians

5) And finally another point to be considered is Indians fight under Indian coaches. But is the coach the one who should be in media spotlight allthe time or one like wright who stays away..

I hate him....pure and simple.

There are too many reasons.... and some of them dont make sense to me also...

But I hate him. He was the one who created rifts between the captain and the team.

I dont know but I get the feeling that the Indian team isnt such a happy team it was under Ganguly.....

I want John Wright and Saurav back !!

Right now the excuse is lets give him time.
how much time? the problem is in India the selection and the whole BCCI is full of people in politics. You can't expect anything better when they are in charge

most kolkata living beings dont like chappels face.
But actually he has brought a lot of professionalism into the game for good.

hmm i am not from Calcutta lol and thats pretty hard on everyone, Lots of people all over India hate him spanning state boundaries. And lots of people like him also..

and what is that professionalism, I hear a lot about it, Give me examples which show the team is professional these days.

SN. sorry was in rush, here's my take -
1. One days - according to your stats, we have done well against Pak, SA, SL & Eng forget windies - they are loose cannon
Test - Away win at Windies is excellent.

2. Coach can show him the path, ultimately the player has to walk the path. Irfan is just going thru' a bad patch - so we need to stick by him when his chips are down. Not to forget he is an asset even with his batting. So won't blame Chappell for that and to his credit he has enough faith in Irfan to stand by him. Irfan would surely bounce back - we just need to be patient - and he is the only bowler in our team i even remotely consider with tag 'Strike'. India has a history of below par bowling attack especially when it comes to fast bowlers - we were always mediocre - now Chappell can't change that overnight. He can only groom talent which is available - and we are eons away from a McGrath. No one can do zilch about it.

3. Sehwag was toast of the town when all was hunky dory, now when he fire's blank people want him out. You can never have a case where the batsmen scores century match after match. Sooner or later he is bound to fail. The thing with berserker's like sehwag is, you just hope & pray that they would fire in crucial matches, as when they do - the match is served to you on platter. Nothing wrong with that theory and not to forget he is still handy as a part-time bowler.
Tendulkar - no comments.
Zaheer - concur he should be given another chance.

4. We need flexibility for the simple reason we want to groom younger blood and to give breaks to older lot, as you would agree - India's one-day schedule is over the top. Remember the right combo is always a combination of older + younger (experience with youth). India for too long has been dependent on individuals, high time we come out of that mold as injuries have also become a regular future in modern cricket.

5. Either way is fine, its the performance that matters.

So overall 7/10.

I would love India to win more test matches especially overseas, thats the only thing i expect from Chappell.

what joke

1) Won tests in windies, yaa but they were 8th rank team in the world and we made the mess of it also. Anyway given we won cos all that matters, we haven't won at home vs england and we are tigers at home(tests) Plus anyone can beat a team when its out of form. Beat them in form and then we will see who is what. You drew with SA at home didn't win.

2) When the team wins then for starteres don't credit the coach also then, Its like if we win the coach is fantastic, if we lose, too early to judge coach and its the players that play. Well you can't fool all the people all the time. Coach is here to make the team win and if he cannot, its the coach who is reponsible. In any sports the responsibility begins and ends at the top.

3) Irfan Pathan seems to be passing through a pretty long bad form phase. And its no longer bad form now. He has been promoted by greg and his gang as a allrounder and a person who can bat. Regularly he s being sent at 3. Simply he is concentrating so much on his batting that they have forgotten he is a baller first than a batsman. We dont need a pinch hitter, but we certainly need a good baller. And i he is going through so much of a bad form, let him concentrate on balling. And extended bad form is a telling comment on the coaching.

4) Its not a question of Sehwag playing once or not. Why is the same yardstick not applied to all the people. If laxman and ganguly can be out of the team for bad performance and for being fatso, then sehwag fits the bill also. Just cos greg or someone else likes him is no condition he sticks in team. Its not a question of his selecting the team based on arbitary criteria. If thats the case, let him say so and accept responsibility for bad performance also. 1 year is apretty long time for a coach.
