STATISTICS

Top 10 batsmen of the World Cups

It comes as no surprise that India's Sachin Tendulkar has been the most prolific batsman in the world cups. Of the 10 batsmen listed below, only Tendulkar, Australian captain Ricky Ponting and West Indies skipper Brian Lara are still playing. No doubt the list will see a radical change after the ICC Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.

Top 10 bowlers of the world cups

Pakistan's Wasim Akram tops the list of best bowlers in the world cups with 55 wickets. Apart from wickets, perhaps the best figures are those of Australian leg spinner Shane Warne's. In spite of being at number seven on the list, Warne is the most useful in terms of economy. Warne picks up a wicket for every 19.5 runs he gives away. At a time when a bowler's economy ratio is said to be decent if it is under five per over, Warne has a ratio of 3.83 runs per over. Among current players, only Sri Lankan Muthiah Muralitharan's ratio is better than Warne's, but he has played more matches and taken fewer wickets than Warne in World Cups.

Top ten fielders of the World Cups

Ricky Ponting, one of the best fielders of the world has taken the most number of catches in world cups (16). It is, however, interesting to notice that Indian leg spinner Anil Kumble, who has never been known for his fielding prowess, is on number four on our list with 14 catches. He features above Steve Waugh and Aravinda de Silva - also with 14 catches each - because he has played fewer matches than the other two.

Top 10 wicket-keepers of the World Cups

Fittingly, Australia who have won the World Cup the most number of times have the best wicket-keepers. Current Aussie keeper Adam Gilchrist heads the list with 35 victims but former greats Ian Healy and Rodney Marsh also feature in the list.
