I may not return for IPL next year - McGrath
Glenn McGrath has expressed his disappointment at not being given a chance by the Delhi Daredevils to prove his fitness during this season's IPL. He is contracted with Delhi next year as well, but McGrath hinted that he may not return for the 2010 season.
The 39-year-old McGrath, who retired after the 2007 World Cup, played almost every game for Delhi in the inaugural IPL and was among the stand-out bowlers in that tournament. However, with Victoria fast bowler Dirk Nannes being outstanding this season, and the Indian pace contingent of Ashish Nehra, Pradeep Sangwan and Aavishkar Salvi performing consistently, McGrath has been on the sidelines this year.
"It has been hard to be a part of the bench, and I was hoping for a game during the league stage," he wrote in his column in the Hindustan Times. "I have asked a couple of people about why I was not being played, and I get the sense that they were worried about my fitness. I feel fitter than I did last year, but I guess I will not get a chance to prove that now."
McGrath, who was signed by Delhi for US$350,000, went on to suggest that he may not be back for the next season. "I am contracted for another year with Delhi, but that is a long way away. Right now, I would not bet on myself returning."
Delhi has been the most impressive side of the tournament so far, finishing on top after the league stage, and take on Deccan Chargers in the first semi-final at Centurion on Friday. Being an Indian and a Delhi Daredevils supporter, I myself am ashamed of this fact. To treat a legend of a player in such manner was the ultimate insult one could have done to him. He should have been given a chance atleast when Delhi had already qualified for the semis. Hell, even vettori got a chance than why not mcrath? 14 Matches and you cannot even afford to include a player like Glen Mcrath in one match? What a shame! And this is after he was the prime bowler for delhi in IPL season one.  ---------------------------------------------- |

NO matter he was d prime bowler in season 1 r not....he s a legend n he shud nt b treatd lyk dis...4get vettori,he canot b compard @ al 2 pigeon.....

Great bowler or not....McGrath was on the bench because the others were performing well and probably the team management didnt think it was necessary to play him...
Instead whining about it he shld just take it in his stride....
BTW if the same had happened with an Indian player (esp Dada) everyone would have found zillions of reasons to blame the player and not the management... |

BTW if the same had happened with an Indian player (esp Dada) everyone would have found zillions of reasons to blame the player and not the management... lol yes 
And anyway i do think they will hike the number of foreign players that can play in a match to atleast 5 next season. A lot of good players are jsut sitting on the bench right now.

Where I think the pity lies is that McGrath is feeling fit and wants to get out on the pitch and earn his keep, (an attitude that could be taken on-board by more than one IPL player).. This season it wasn't to be............. |

McGrath won't return He is already 40.. and isn't playing cricket as much as he used to.
But it is a disgrace to not play him
