India in Deep Trouble : Yuvraj , Munaf and Agarkar Out !

Yuvraj Singh was on Saturday ruled out of the crucial ICC Champions Trophy match against Australia on Sunday after he suffered a knee injury during practice.

Yuvraj was hurt while playing kho-kho as part of the team's practice. He was taken to the hospital for an MRI test that showed ligament damage.

Yuvraj limped from the practice nets to the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) clubhouse where doctors examined his knee.

PCA sources said Yuvraj had a twisted ankle as well. The winner of the Sunday's match will make it to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Agarkar, meanwhile, is likely to miss out on the upcoming South African tour. The Indian squad, which is to depart for South Africa on November 13, is scheduled to play the five-match One-day series before the Tests. With sources saying Agarkar might be out for four weeks, his chances for the ODI series look bleak


The beleaguered Indian team received a fresh jolt on Friday when paceman Ajit Agarkar was ruled out of the Champions Trophy after breaking his left thumb while fielding against West Indies in Ahmedabad on Thursday. To make matters worse, Munaf Patel, the best Indian pacer on view at the moment, is also in danger of missing out on the door-die clash against Australia on Sunday. S Sreesanth, meanwhile, has been called up as Agarkar's replacement in the Champions Trophy squad.

Munaf could not complete his quota of ten overs in the game against West Indies here on Thursday because of an injury and mediapersons were told by officials that it was a "bruise and nothing serious". However, TOI has learnt that Munaf, who was taken to Apollo hospital on Thursday night, has been diagnosed with 'an injury to a ligament on the right wrist'.

BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah insisted that the bowler would be fit and available. "John Gloster’s (team physio) report has confirmed that Munaf has not suffered a bone damage," said Shah.

However, orthopaedic consultants Manjul Joshipura and Maulik Patwa, who examined Munaf, said: "It is unlikely that he will be able to play for a week at least," they said.

In both the games in Kuala Lumpur, we bowled very well, restricted them to 244 and 213. The game we didn't chase was very disappointing personally. Tomorrow we need to complete the job and finish it off."
