A sad performance by India in the first ODI , I expected a better start , atleast they could have given them a fight. Lets hope for the best for the next match.

Yeah, hoping against hope

Just saying India will do well, ain't gonna make India do well.(and no am not a subscriber to your theory of blind support) We have to analyse why we lost and then learn from mistakes.

For starters, we need to find a way to tackle Mendis.

Mendis is overrated. Yes , he is performing exceedingly well for a new comer but he is certainly not unplayable. With that said even I am against the all young Indian outfit. There should always be a balance between the youth and the experienced. The selectors should have at least given some respect to the Indian Trio. They have been the backbone of Indian cricket for more then 10 years and suddenly eliminating them from the team leaves India spineless. The selectors are showing alot of faith in Dhoni which may not be a very good thing for Indian cricket.

As I see it, the way is known:

1. Use of the feet as much as possible.
2. Playing with the turn.
3. "Picking up" his deliveries from the arm.

The problem is mainly with the fact that Mendis appears a little harder to pick , and so the batsmen are uncertain when deciding to play their shots......that also explains the lack of footwork.

I am afraid only prolonged experience of playing against him will help with reading his deliveries well, so I don't expect any drastic changes in the Indian fortunes here (Except if they decide to give us a really flat track, which is very unlikely anyway.)
