Well, i have a different POV on this one..

When u are playing at the highest level and representing a country, u are supposed to PERFORM...As long as u perform, u are the right guy..if u falter and fail repeatedly, its better to let some other worthy contender step in ur place and make the country proud!!

There are many talented players, the careers of whom are wasted playing for second rate ranji teams because somebody with a big name is not ready to step down from the team evn if he has lost it...and is not capable enuf to continue performing at the same level as before...when such a time arrives, why not step down voluntarily and let the youngsters take charge?

Same is prolly true for Dravid now i guess...his golden days are prolly over..and he has reached a ripe age playing cricket for the team...if he retires now, it wud be good for his reputation as well..if it gets any worse than this and he has to be sacked, tht wud be so humiliating..

In this case, i'm not evn biased towards sachin...the guy is still playing gr8 cricket and is delivering..if he stops to deliver the goods, it wud be time to say adios to indian cricket for him too..He has had enuf records already..

My point is, there is no alternative to performance at such a high level... if the players stop performing, its time to bid them goodbye and let other worthy players take their place, instead of paying tribute to their yesteryears of gr8 performance and let them linger on and on and on at the cost of the team...

A player is only as good as his performance...no performance..no candies!!

Agreed. Dada should someday agree he misused his power as a captain, but hey these guys also know that they have a bad patch and can come good. If u had read my posts on dada and dravid earlier, i have always said, dada wasn't good for that 1 year u also know about. I supported the notion of sacking him. But a string of low scores in 2 - 3 innings doesn't mean he is bad again. He has been performing consistenly well in tests and ODI of late since his come back. check the stats.

Having said that, name 3 players apart from yuvi and dhoni who will automatically be selected in the team based on performance(

yuvi and dhoni performing pretty poor these days

). I mean the batsmen.
Ppl are given chances, but the old boys are the spinal chord of this batting line up. Chances have been given and many have failed.

If the same yardsticks had been applied to sachin, he would have been sacked last time the indians toured australia... 4-5 low scores followed by a big NOT OUT score. Ur avg would be intact.

My point is, these blokes are the best this nation has. If someone had been better he would be in the team. Regional politics have kept out a few, but if u are really a good player, one would be playing for india no matter what!
