India vs Sri Lanka cricket series preview

The stage is set... The final series before the cricket world cup and we can't have it any better. Two serious contenders for the world cup go head to head against each other in what will be the final test to get things right for both the teams. And the series will kick off at the grandest stage of them all, the Eden Gardens.

For India, it would be a pleasant change from the last time they played here. When South Africa demolished the Indian batting and the balling, on a green top eden gardens pitch, which many believe was revenge taken on the Indian cricket team by the Kolkata crowd for keeping dada out of the team. Then, the team was booed in and booed out, now you can rest assured they will not be booed in atleast(one can never tell about the out part, especially with Indian team so i want even conjecture.) Dada is back in the team and for a change, Indian team seems to be having the problem of whom to keep out. Certainties of the past year are no longer in the team or fighting for their place while guys whom everyone advised to retire are the greatest hope of the team(read dada!).

The start up for India has hardly been perfect and the omens are not at all good. pathan has a sore shoulder, yuvraj back pain and Agarkar is down with fever and flu. Who will carry the middle order is an open question and Sachin's form off late in International cricket is a concern to say the least. For Sri Lanka, coming to a series without their best bowlers in Vaas and Murali, one might be fooled into thinking that the firepower in bowling is just not there. However this would be a dangerous assumption to make under any circumstances. In Malinga, the SL's have a top quality bowler and a great backup spin attack. Not to forget Sanath Jayasuriya who, like Dada, seems to be in a mood like never before. He is on a six hitting spree and if he fires, Sri Lanka could have the game done and over with in 30 flat minutes.

1 lak people in a stadium, watching 22 players playing, the experience is like no other. 4 matches to go before the grandest test of all in world cup, this series promises to be a stunner. Its time for the big time!!

This is gonna be fun. Last time Sri Lanka played here was against India all those years ago... in the 96 world cup, which saw the demise of a crying Kambli's international career, with Sanath Jaysuriya thrashing the living daylights out of the Indian team, and the Calcutta crowds rioting, causing the game to be called off.
