In a multi million dollar auction for the Indian Professional League (IPL) tournament promoted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the winning bids have been announced.

Here are the winners:

Mumbai : Mukesh Ambani
Kolkata : Shahrukh Khan
Hyderabad : Deccan Chronicle
Bangalore : Vijay Mallya
Jaipur : Consortium of Bankers based in England.
Chennai : Indian Cement
Chandigarh : Preity Zinta/Ness wadia
Delhi : GMR



Total Bids reach 6996 crore.

Each party had to submit a minimum bid of 50 million dollars. Every city had more than 1 bidder.

Vijay Mallya(435 crore)

The successful bidders will own city teams and players such as Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne for the next 10 years.

BTW the Jaipur team was won by Emerging Media aka Investors in Cricket, the same guys who bought to us Cricket Star and Cricket Star 2 (on going).

I guess, Vijaya mallya and ambani over did the bidding

^ Mukesh ambani, No , but vijay mallya has overbid. Mumbai has been the powerhouse when it comes to cricket in India, so of course he had to shell out more money for the mumbai team. Bangalore would also have been a expensive team but 435 crore is a bit too much. I think GMR's bid (328 crore) for the delhi team is the best of all considering they just won the ranji tourney.

Atm BCCI will also earn money from kit sponsorship and jersey. The guys are rolling in money

Btw Mallya has announced on TV that he will use this as a platform to advertise his products. err so we can expect his kingfisher babes in cricket matches now

Now coming to IPL, what i still can't see is why people will turn up to watch this match. The kind of city mentality just does not exist in India. WHy am i saying this cos to a large extent challenger trophy uses similar model with all top Indian players playing. No one comes to see that. Plus here we have to even deal with Mandira
