on a serious note, his defence is that he was trying to defend himself when this happened. Don't forget that the lower court actually acquitted him.

^ Yes, in the corridors of law the intention or motivation plays an important factor.

It was a street brawl which ended in a bizarre ending. Extremities of emotional state sometimes can cause a stroke. It can either be too much of happiness or extreme fear.

Yes he wanted to bash the guy but did he want to kill the guy is the pertinent point. And in those grounds i think he can be forgiven.

No offense meant to anyone. Fact of the matter is he should have showed restraint. But alas it did happen and there is no denying that.

Update :

Navjot Singh Sidhu sentenced to 3 years imprisonment.

The sentence has been suspended, meaning he would not have to go to jail immediately, leaving the room for an appeal in higher court.

He has also been fined Rs. 1 Lakh.

He is sure to appeal this in Supreme Court.

Have to say just pure bad luck to everyone involved...

Sidhu to appeal in SC, claims innocence

BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was sentenced to three years imprisonment in a road rage death case, on Wednesday, maintained that he was innocent and would appeal against the Punjab and Haryana High Court order.

Reacting to the judgement, he claimed that the entire country was with him and added "what more could one ask for?"

Reciting an Urdu couplet, Sidhu said law was taking its course and he was submitting himself in deference to judiciary in which he has full faith.

He said that he was a sportsman and could experience both defeat and win.

Sidhu said Akali Dal chief Parkash Singh Badal has been a fatherly figure for him and therefore he did not miss his parents.

Btw - Amarinder Singh is all over the news channel baiting for Sidhu's blood. This is slowly and surely turning into a Poll issue. The political angle just cannot be ignored anymore.
