Navjot Singh Sidhu convicted, might get life imprisonment (Updated)
Sidhu has been convicted for Culpable Homicide under Section 304 of the Indan Penal Code by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Basically it means he has been found guilty on charge of attempt to murder.
The incident in question is about what happened in 1988 - it seems Sidhu and his buddy Rupinder Singh beat up Gurnam Singh for some parking dispute in Patiala. They later fled the scene but not before folks got a mighty good look at them.
Gurnam Singh later succumbed to his injuries, a case of heart attack.
The minimum punishment for attempt to murder is about 10 years and maximum is life imprisonment.
Sidhu can appeal the judgment in Supreme court.
He has been acquitted before but the Gurnam's family & the prosecution appealed the judgment so the case was reopened in 1999.
Sidhu in his defence has said that he never intended to cause any harm or kill Gurnam. He says it was just an accident.
So what do you guys feel, guilty or he should be forgiven as it was just an accident and he never meant it. Case of youthful vigor. His current persona has no semblance to his vagrant ways.
My take -> Forgive and forget but i don't think the Family of Gurnam is buying that, they have asked for stringent punishment.
Poll Added.
Update :
Navjot Singh Sidhu sentenced to 3 years imprisonment.
The sentence has been suspended, meaning he would not have to go to jail immediately, leaving the room for an appeal in higher court.
He has also been fined Rs. 1 Lakh.
He is sure to appeal this in Supreme Court.

Sidhu Covicted for culpable Homicide
Looks like the past has catched up with Navjot Singh Sidhu.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court have found cricketer-turned-MP Navjot Singh Sidhu guilty of culpable homicide, not amounting to murder, of Gurnam Singh in Patiala in 1998. Gurnam Singh had died allegdly of beating by Sidhu in 1988.
Sidhu had been earlier acquitted by a lower court. The quantum of punsihment for navjot will be decided on wednesday
So game over for sidhu as a MP and NDTV anchor too?

^ Forget to mention the political angle.
Sidhu was about to take on our super duper Amarinder Singh. And the timing is just too good to be true after the Soren incident.
Man the government both State and Central plays its card pretty well.

^ But he is a changed man and not to forget as he said and confesses he did beat up the guy along with his friend. But he never wanted to cause any grievous injury.
Also, the guy later succumbed to a stroke - so somewhere i can understand his defense when he says - it was just an accident.
The term which comes to mind is 'Rotten Luck'

Re: Navjot Singh Sidhu convicted, might get life imprisonment
^^lol imagine if all murderer start saying that ! "Hey guys i just popped a guy 2 weeks ago, but i am changed man now." I don't think that argument works for me. Also the guy succumbed to a stroke in his injuries. Outside of it, the incident would have a exception. And attacking a man with a cahoot and saying i did not want to cause a grave injury doesn't go together.

The moot question is 'Stroke due to injuries or just a stroke at the wrong time'
Only doc can throw some light if you can get strokes if someone beats you up
Finer details i am not privy too - let few more details come out.
