> Sachin Tendulkar - A debate

Sachin tendulkar, arguably the world best batsmen ever since Don Bradman [Ricky ponting is catchin' up thou] is God like in india. Thou he has several records to boast off and still remains the most successful indian batsmen in the history of cricket, when it really mattered he has not delivered as one would expect him to. People who support him bring into picture the 98' sharjah bashing and 2003 WC vs Pak match and i faintly remember 2 other instances when chasing a 290 plus scores he tried his best with scores of 130+ which eventually india went down losing.
It is a well known fact that he is the most pressurised player ever in the history of this sport, with a billion and more fans across the globe wanting him to deliver time and again.

Australia known for its greatness and success treats its players as only simple individuals and players who deliver time and again and players in form are chosen. Records doesn't matter to them much. India, known for its cricket craze are more emotional and sentimental towards their cricketing idols sometimes hailed as gods.

After this debacle in 2007, will the indian cricket board take some harsh decisions keeping in mind the future of indian cricket?
Will sachin's failure as a big match player be looked upon more than his records?

Time will soon answer these questions.

Kicking off the debate, I believe sachin when relied upon heavily fails of late on a more regular basis. When the team and the entire nation wants him to score, he doesn't . This puts more pressure on others.

Imagine India 0/1,
Uthappa back in the pavilion.
or
Sachin back in the pavilion.

Which would put more pressure? Sachin obviously.
But having served the nation so many times, dropping sachin would be hurting him badly and this is why time and again the selectors have overlooked his failures.
Now is the time for the selectors to decide, who is more Important?

India or Sachin?

Well I think a player should retire from a team sport if he feels team can perform in his absence and when they have quality young players to fit in their shoes, or when his body gives up. I think tendlya is not as fit as he was in 96' WC, but at the same time team can afford to lose him, so i think he sould wait for some more time, maybe a year or so before saying goodbye(to atleast ODIs)

there is a rumour these days ... Sachin will become the captain and lead the team .

I think Sachin Tendulkar should be allowed to play Tests and should be replaced by a youngster in ODIs . thats it guys!

well my views are already known so i won't repeat them unless necessary
all said and done here is what i think
1) Sachin is an under-performer when it really matters
2) He is still an awesome talent
3) He is batting at the wrong number. He should bat at 1. not at damn 4th
4) He is feared when he attacks. He has to attack.

He has still some years in him, i don't think he will be dropped(realistically no chance, he migh rest on his own) if they drop him 3 months down the line Indian fans will get him back. So he will play but he has to start attacking and bat at the top of the order with dada.

Well technically the Indians have got it all wrong . why the hell are they not attacking ??? why is Tendulkar not attacking ?

I agree, the fans will bring him back in just 2 days man.. why wait for 3 months?
But everytime he fails in a big match, it is a huge blow for us
