Tendulkar collapsed and cut his cheek before West Indies match
There seems to be more than just a bout of food poisoning for master blaster Sachin Tendulkar that kept him out for the match against West Indies.
Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar on Thursday revealed that he had a fall in his hotel room due to a lack of strength in his body following a stomach infection. As a result, he missed India's vital Champions trophy match against the West Indies here on Wednesday.
"
I fell down in my room - not in the bathroom, though - I was so drained yesterday," a cheerful Tendulkar told Mail Today at the Sandton Sun team hotel.
Pointing to a still fresh cut on his left cheek bone and a slightly black mark near the nose bridge, a relieved - looking Tendulkar said with a smile: "
You see this - this is because of the fall. But I was lucky that I fell on my nose and did not injure my eyes." Tendulkar, 36, was lucky not to break his nose.
Asked what could have led to such a severe stomach infection, Tendulkar said that he probably caught the infection during India's washed out match against Australia in Centurion on Monday.
"
I did not eat anything at the hotel. At the stadium, I ate something that probably had the rain water mixed with it," he said, still wondering what food could have affected him.
Even though no information was forthcoming from the team management about the incident, media reports quoted Tendulkar as saying that he ate something at the stadium in Centurion after India's washed out match against Australia and that probably led to the stomach infection.
Sachin subsequently decided to keep himself away from the game, after he felt unwell on the eve of the match against the Windies.
