Re: Shocker: Sourav Dravid dropped from ODI Squad
Dada does not have anything to prove.
Anyway i just think Sourav should have said goodbye after the last series. I know why he didn't, Australia is one country all people want to conquer but in hindsight i think he will regret it. He could have left on top like gilli. There was no need to suffer the humiliation of being dropped. He is a champion and should have left when he was in the team.
there is no doubt that Sourav has silenced every critic with his comeback. There hasn't been a better comeback last year in any sport. But the perennial problem with Indian sport is no one ever says goodbye till they don't get kicked out. Look at gilli, going out at top of his career. And he announced it. Why can't the Indians do that ever.
I will admit so far as Sourav could have played anyway till this year. He doesn't have the fitness now to compete. It would have been better to leave when people would have asked why rather than why not.
Dravid's time has come also. I think it would be a great gesture if both say goodbye at same time, both made their test match debut at the same time too. Both have been champions and i guess its time to go now rather than being humiliated by the jokers in selection committee.(And making life hard for them in the process.)
They can play IPL, but its time for them to leave ODI and Test cricket.

Re: Shocker: Sourav Dravid dropped from ODI Squad
Well, thts what we've been saying all this while..
The ideal time to retire for them is now...they have played enuf cricket and they shud voluntarily retire instead of being humiliated and kicked out...
I dont know whether its the lure of money (as if they dont have enuf already) or the desire to prove themselves again and again, tht they want to linger on, before they become so unbearable tht they have to be kicked out... Why not retire in full form like Gilchrist? Then they'll always be remembered for their contribution to indian cricket rahter than the way they were kicked out just bcso they didnt want to step down...
Sachin is in gr8 form at the moment, but i think, he too shud retire by the end of 2008 in full form so tht he will always be remembered as one of the greatest legends of indian and world cricket..
He's had enuf money, fame, records et al...now he can rest easy and play a captain of Mumbai for IPL...

I'll tell u something,
Dravid, dada and sachin they all play cricket, just cos they love it. Nothing else.
No money, No fame !
It is sad to see them both given step motherly treatment.
BCCI sucks to treat there captains like this.
Seniors don't have enough faith in the juniors. they haven't proved it either.
This ODI series will answer all our questions.

Not a question of not having faith. They are not playing for others. The problem is plain and simply that the Indians just don't know when the time is up and about going out gracefully.

All this talk about gilly going out when he is on a high is all trash
He would have been dropped if he hadn't scored in this last match. He has been dropping a lot of catches and with the bat he hasn't been close to what he was in the last 2 - 3 years but for the world cup final
Quite frankly, he quit before he was dropped or chucked out

I don't think so. He just dropped a couple and cos he has set such a high standard, people talk. He is still an outstanding wicket keeper and actually his slump in form is way better than slump some of our batsmen go through

Re: Shocker: Sourav Dravid dropped from ODI Squad
See, this lot needs to declare when they plan to retire. They all know the entire schedule for the next 500 years anyway, so announce stuff like "I am going to retire after the XXXX series". After that, the selectors will not dare throw them out. The fans will riot and say they want to see their heroes one last time before retirement.
Of course, that would require those dudes to retire sometime in the near future.
