Steyn cleared by IPL Dale Steyn has been cleared of any doping violation by the Indian Premier League, Cricket South Africa have confirmed.
CSA released a statement clearing the Proteas fast bowler of any wrong doing during the tournament earlier this year.
Only 24 hours earlier, CSA confirmed their premier paceman had been asked to explain an abnormal finding in a drugs test conducted during the IPL.
Steyn, on duty with Bangalore Royal Challengers at the time of the test, had returned higher than normal amounts of morphine during an analysis conducted during the IPL, whose chairman Lalit Modi came out denying that any player had tested positive.
CSA's chief executive officer, Gerald Majola said: "There was a discrepancy in the result of a doping test during the IPL.
"But the authorities are perfectly satisfied with the explanation that Dale has provided and they have confirmed that no offence has been committed," added Majola, who also pointed out that his organisation remained totally committed to the International Cricket Council's anti-doping programme.
Steyn's increased levels of morphine are believed to have been caused by painkillers he used to relieve chronic migraines.
IPL supremo Modi had indicated the 26-year-old may have obtained a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) and hence would not face sanctions from the IPL.
He said: "I'm aware of the reports from South Africa, but I can say that our anti-doping agency has not given us any input that Steyn or any other player had failed a dope test.
"It's possible that he (Steyn) had declared that he was using a prescribed drug. In any case, it's for Cricket South Africa or the International Cricket Council to take any action if needed." source: google news ---------------------------------------------- |
