here is the last word debate on dravid vs dada on captaincy


Since the case has been explicitly challenged by agnel, i will direct the case towards him, anyone can join in to support or to disagree

I lay my opening statements the rest later

Without a shred of doubt, Sourav is the better captain.
A team, an army is decided by the general. As a general you get the credit when you win a war and you get the gallows(oh not exactly lets say the axe) if you fail. A general strategizes, motivates and leads. He finds the best men for the job and then motivates them to give 100%. Apply the above to last 5 years and a clear fact emerges that Sourav took a ordinary team, haggarded by match fixing controversy and took it to the world cup finals as the second best team in the world(not by icc rankings but in the opinion of everyone.)
HE found talent, gave them the push and led by force. Alas every quality thus mentioned is absent in his successor, Rahul Dravid. He might be a better batsman, infact he is, but he is not a leader. He is the one who will sit back and let things happen, to be influenced by those whom he will trust. The last 2 years have shown just that.

I now ask agnel to lay his case

Anyways, this thread should be there till the time dravid retires or quits captaincy like Fleming. It would be fair to discuss who is a better captain only after dravid's tenure comes to an end.

Lemme tell you that dravid is anyway not going to play for more than a year. So your comparison with Karthik or fleming cuts no ice. We aren't comparing a 35 year old with a 22 year old. Both are same age.

As far as deciding after dravids tenure comes to an end, well it should have come to and end right now for a remarkably shameful tenure it has been.

Anyway i presume you don't have any ammo to defend your player with(which isw understandable there is no argument frankly ) so i give myself the case

His first year at the Helm proved a lot. Won a lot of series. Thrashed the opponents. did quite a lot. His second year saw a failure of the entire team.
Just 2 years aint enuf bro. We need time. another year and dravid is out?

I don't wanna prove anything. You may list down your say about Dada and his great captaincy. [ Dada is still one of my fav cricketers dude ]. But facts are facts and I don't wanna run away from them.
You can list about dada now, Dravid really nothing to talk about his 2nd year as i said. But 1st year's results were nice. I'll help you out with dada...

i can dare say that if his 1st year results are nice then its not his own doing but the doing of the people that were(dada and wright)
What results are we talking off?
1) He won against SriLanka which was missing key players in vaas and murali
(and vaas and murali are SriLanka, anyone knoews that)
2) He draws a series against England(test). That is shameful. They are never a ODI side but you can expect india to win test matches in India?
3) You lose the test series in Pakistan(we won under dada)
4) You get mauled in windies which were 9th ranked team in ICC listings. You win the test series 1-0 when it should have been a whitewash cos you were in poision to win in all matches, but for weak captaincy and no aggressiveness.
I needn't even go after that(knocked out of ICC mini cup in India, knock out in WC)

lets talk about the process
1) The most happening baller for India, Irfan pathan destroyed by his silly process of making him bat at 3. Here was India's answer to Imran and today under him he can't even make the team.
2)His youth policy exposed. Backed the wrong players. Backed sehwag, took us nowhere. Backed his fav youths, end of the day we had to go back to dada(and to expereince) to save us the blushes in SA and subsequently.

I mean are we talking mistakes here?? these are pure blunders, total ineptitude for captaincy and decision making. And to continue him as captain is nothing short of a disgrace. For him also. Indians won't forgive him for more blunders and we know how past captains have gone out. For him, it was better if he had resigned.

Whatever but i cant forget how dada used to give tendulkar a ball in 50th over with 6 runs to wins for opposition, and every time it paid off. Got to say dada got a intuition mastery.

Still he had to captain safin, Ponting took over from Steve, still ponting is considered a very good captain. You can't say, he is taking over from steve and so he has results.

How poor with your stats. you should feel ashamed.
SL played with both vaas and murali when they were thrashed 6-1.

tests were pathetic, india lost the last test match with a 4th innings total of century all together . But ODI had to be won, still they thrashed. 5 - 1 with weather playing its part in one more. else 6 - 1.

FYI, Dravid captained 2 out of the 3 matches. dada came for the last match alone and in all the photos Dada will look like he doesn't belong there

Against WI, all were close matches except for the last. I dont want to give any excuse here. Test series they won, they could have won better, agreed. But Dada's team failed to win the series the last time . whats your say then? They got thrased but for one match.

Pathan failed? You have to be flexible. Pathan flourished once upon a time at No.3 and as an opener. No body spoke a word. 2nd year under Dravid's reign he didn't do well. Lack of form. Pathan himself enjoys playing at No.3. No body spoke bad about pathan when he scored, but when he failed, ppl started talking about the process. pathan will be back and stronger. You'll remember me then.

He backed Sehwag, but when sehwag started to score, others failed. A debacle is a debacle. Nothing is wrong in looking at the youth. Ppl will find a place if they are good enuf.
The great dada who took his place for granted as Captain and showed wrong attitude was shown the door. Dada's batting dipped to an all time low cos of his captaincy and "Taking for granted" attitude.

Dada made a comeback. Agreed. An awesome comeback.
But u urself admitted he looked like playing for his place in the WC.

What decision making blunder dravid made? List them.
There aren't many who can replace him as captain as of now. The only captaincy like material isn't in the best of his form. This is the best fellow to lead the team right now. His form as captain hasn't dipped at all and made sure no body took their place for granted. Dravid played as a PLAYER and Captain unlike dada who played with 10 other players and himself as captain.

Nothing is wrong with the process. The fruits of what dravid has done is yet known. One day it will be shown to the world.
