Oh yeah, for whom?
1) BCCI for shouting at the top of the voice that they are the most profitable sports body in India and cricket body in world but allowed bids to reach such an amount that in the end we the people who made cricket what it is is being denied to even watch, or wait even listen to it. And that when its happening in our country.
2) For nimbus, for it gave them a chance to launch a new channel, charge 38rs for 1 year contract per month from user when they don't have any rights for nything other that Indian matches(to put it in perspective, espn star with all the sports on it costs 37rs.)
Sports is for the people, what is the point of raking up the bidding to such an extent that the broadcaster has no alternative but to resort to all kinda of monopolistic practices to stop people from watching the feed. Whatever the arguments, DD as a national broadcaster should have the rights, and irrespective of anything, money should not be the sole criteria for awarding rights. At least with ten sports and espn star you know there is something else to watch also. What with these rotten channels coming up who win the rights once and then charge anything from us and vanish. Look at zee sports, and sony max.
Is anyone listening?

BCCI is too busy raking in the moolah.. its not a surprise that they dont care abt people who want to watch the match(heck they dont care if india wins or loses, forget about the aam junta)
indian sports for all its upcoming stars is going downhill... i guess a time will come when you would have to subscribe to many sports channels that cater to only one sport... thank god majorityof the indians watch cricket... lol. |

BCCI meanwhile has decided to support nimbus in court. partners in crime, what else can they do.

The Indian government is considering passing legislation to force television right-holders for international cricket in India to share feed with Doordarshan, the state-run channel. Meanwhile, the matter has moved to the courtrooms, with Nimbus moving Delhi High Court on the issue - the matter will be heard on Tuesday - and Prasar Bharati filing caveats in the Supreme Court, the Delhi High Court and the Bombay High Court seeking to be made a party in any petition on the telecast row.
"They [Nimbus] have a very unpatriotic attitude," Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, the Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Minister, told The Times of India. "Since they do not want to share feed, I will bring in a legislation in the next cabinet [meeting]," he said.
The government was considering hurrying through an ordinance, which takes 10 to 15 days in normal circumstances, to ensure the telecast of India's ongoing one-day series with West Indies on Doordarshan, the newspaper reported. It also quoted an I&B ministry official as saying that a channel could be pulled off air if it did not comply with guidelines.
Cricket viewers in many parts of the country missed out on India's match against West Indies at Nagpur as cable operators and the distributors failed to reach to an agreement on costs.
