The board has yet to take a decision on the offer, which was made during a meeting of a National Assembly committee called to discuss the issue. Younus submitted his resignation to the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ejaz Butt during a hearing of the National Assembly standing committee on sports in Islamabad on Tuesday.
The hearing was called to discuss the performance of the team in the Champions Trophy after the committee chairman, Jamshed Dasti, said on television he had evidence Pakistan had deliberately under-performed against Australia and New Zealand.
Pakistan lost to Australia in the group stage of the September 22-October 5 tournament, and after qualifying for the latter stages lost to New Zealand in the semi-finals.
"Yes I have submitted my resignation because I am disgusted by these match-fixing allegations made against me and the team," Younus told Reuters.
"I have told the chairman to go through my resignation and read my point of view."
Sources close to Younus also said his letter indicated he wanted to take a break from cricket and would not be available for the upcoming series against New Zealand and Australia.
Younus was appointed captain early this year after the board removed Shoaib Malik as skipper after a one-day home series defeat to Sri Lanka in January.
Younus led Pakistan to victory in the Twenty20 World Cup in England in July before announcing his retirement from the version of the sport, insisting he was too old. ---------------------------------------------- |

Weren't you the one saying the last two matches were fixed Well Younis did the right thing. He is a good sportsman and after giving your best you don't expect to be accused of match fixing.
You attack his credibility once and then you want him to remain as captain too
Well its about time Pakistani pubic also realized that losing and playing badly is part of sports. Posted via Mobile Device |

I did agreed the Australia one But however I admit the mistake Younis however wasn't blamed on even one of the match The man who announced match fxing wasn't backed by anyone and also PCB backed Younis

You blame the team, captain when you accuse the team to fix the match. The captain is responsible.
Now he quits and you 'realize your mistake'. so had he not quit, you would have just thought of the team and the captain to be match fixers.
Well anyway, i hope this gets the message accross to each and every cricket fans in Pakistan to trust their team and not their politicians

Ijaz Butt, the Pakistan board chairman, has given Younis Khan the backing he wanted, insisting he will remain ODI captain until the 2011 World Cup.
Butt appears to have ended days of speculation over the future of the Pakistan captaincy, reiterating once again that he had not accepted Younis' resignation. Younis handed in his papers last week after attending a National Assembly committee meeting, in which allegations of match-fixing during Pakistan's semi-final loss to New Zealand were investigated. Those charges - as well as persistent politicking in the team by a group of players to undermine his leadership - were reasons believed to be behind his move.
Butt, however, rejected the resignation and opted to meet Younis privately instead, in a bid to change his mind. It is believed that at the meeting Younis laid down conditions which had to be accepted before he could return: he wanted to streamline the selection process, an assurance of a lengthier tenure than just on a series-by-series basis, and also changes in the team management. The PCB held meetings to discuss the matter though the meeting with the governing board today is said not to have raised the subject.
Though Butt did not speak of any such conditions, he was unequivocal in his support for Younis. "When I first appointed him in January 2009, there was no tenure for his captaincy but obviously sometimes security is needed. He is definitely our captain till the 2011 World Cup provided he remains fit. His performance has been excellent, he is fit, he has won a World Cup and as long as the selectors keep picking him, he is our choice as captain," Butt told Cricinfo.
Earlier, Butt had rejected Younis' resignation during an eagerly-awaited press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, saying he understood why Younis handed in his papers. "I have not accepted Younis Khan's resignation. There is no justification in removing him as captain. I realise and understand his reaction. Had I been in his place I would've done the same."Though Younis could not be reached for comment, Butt said he had agreed to take up the captaincy one again.
