Aamir Khan new look in Ghajini

Salman Khan, eat your heart out. Hrithik Roshan, go to the back of the class. The best body in Bollywood is about to step out from behind the gym shower curtain. And, it is Aamir Khan’s. NT presents the awe-inspiring look that the actor developed to showcase in his new film Ghajini. Feast your eyes on him. You will be forgiven for mistaking Aamir for the Mike Tyson of 1989. Aamir has the same look, in face and body; it just shows what man can make of himself once the mind is conditioned to accept pain of sustained, rigorous physical training.

Ghajini is not the kind of film Aamir is used to making. It is an action thriller, a complete entertainer with revenge as its theme. Filmmaker A R Murgadoss of the South convinced Aamir to play the role of a man of violence. Aamir said in explanation, “I needed this kind of physique because the kind of action you see me doing, requires this kind of body.” As to what it took to achieve this street fighter look, Aamir still cringes thinking about the sheer torture he put himself through to get there. “It took three hours of workout every day. I began on March 15, 2007, one day after my birthday, and it went on till April 21, 2008,” he said, “I learnt a lot about fitness in this period. And how far I can push myself.”

The Workout

“The workout was a cycle of three days,” he revealed, “Mondays I did chest and back, Tuesdays I worked on the arms, and Wednesdays I exercised my shoulders and legs. Then I would repeat the cycle. This included cardio every day. And abs, to work the core muscles and get the six-pack, say 1,000 crunches. On days when I felt good, I wouldpush myself more. There was no time to think because I’d be screaming in pain! But, I was particular about getting eight hours of sleep. No matter what time I went to bed, I’d get eight hours, then get up and start training. It was tough, because I was into post production for Taare Zameen Par at the time. And I’d finish my workouts, shower, crash out for a while to regain strength, then go to work.” He talked about the challenging diet that supplemented his look. “It was a balanced diet, one-third fat, one-third carbs, one-third protein, but normal food, rotis, rice, sabzis, chicken, 16 egg whites, fruit, and four litres of water. All cooked in three teaspoons of oil. No, not olive oil. There was no sugar, no potatoes, no bananas, no red meat, no egg yolks and no fried stuff. The diet changed every month. In the last week and before I went on the sets of Ghajini, I cut down on salt. And the last three days, I took myself to the brink of dehydration by having just one glass of water a day. This cut that last bit of fat. And the body looked lean and ripped,” said Aamir triumphantly. It truly is a phenomenal way of preparing for a role and getting into character for any actor. Aamir’s film is slated for release in December. The actor, meanwhile, is into his next film already. It is Raju Hirani’s 3 Idiots, for which he does not require “any kind of body”. How did he feel about losing the Ghajini look for 3 Idiots? “It’s heartbreaking,” said Aamir Khan with a wry smile.

When Aamir Khan’s look in his upcoming film Ghajini was released yesterday, little did anyone know that his picture with ripped muscles would turn out to be a nightmare for Dr. Surekha Verma, a resident of Kanjurmarg, who has nothing to do with the film.

A source said, “One of the assistant directors of Ghajini wrote a random number as a temporary tattoo on Aamir’s body. The pictures of Aamir were then printed in the newspaper. However, the number happened to be a lady’s number who has nothing to do with either Aamir or the film.

She woke up yesterday morning on receiving several calls asking for Aamir Khan. Initially, she wondered why she was getting calls from strangers. She realised what was happening only after she saw her number sketched on Aamir’s bicep in the newspaper.”

Fed up with the unwanted calls, the lady called up the newspaper office to air her grievances, saying that she was an ordinary citizen working at a reputed place and had been going through hell since morning. Finally, she had to switch off her phone to stop the calls from bothering her.

When contacted, Aamir said, “I really regret the inconvenience caused to the lady whose number was tattooed on my arm. Today, I received over 900 SMSes regarding my Ghajini look. I had to clean up my inbox three times since morning. I empathise with her as I can imagine what she must have gone through.”

The producer of Ghajini, Madhu Varma said, “One of the assistant directors wrote down a random number for the tattoo. We didn’t know that it would be so prominent and we didn’t foresee any such consequence. We will apologise to the lady and offer her a new phone connection.”

Giving the lady a new number seems to be the best solution because the same picture will be used in hoardings all over the country.

A source from the production unit said, “The problem will escalate as the same picture will be turned into life-size posters, which will be put in theatres all across India. The phone number will be more prominent once it’s on the hoardings.”

When we called, Dr. Surekha,she said, “It was maddening ever since I woke up to these non-stop crazy calls asking for Aamir, Anthony… I had to switch off my phone. How can anyone just use my number like that, without my knowledge, forget my consent.”

Aamir and Madhu Varma were apologetic and regretted the inconvenience. They said that they would like to offer her a new number. Surekha accepted that and said, “I am fine if they have a new number for me, I can't continue with this number anymore.”

In the film, Aamir plays a man who loses his memory after every 15 minutes because of which he writes everything that he needs to remember on his body for quick reference.
