I agree with Prongs, it's incredibly difficult to make a period movie featuring combat as a main component, (and make it believable), not impossible, but you need to spend an extraordinary amount of money to make it true to life.
The best example I can think of was the movie
Gettysburg, which starred Tom Berenger, Martin Sheen, Steven Lang, Jeff Daniels, C. Thomas Howell and a raft of other actors, including the ever brilliant Sam Elliot, plus over 5000 civil war re-enactors, who frankly, bought the movie to life, because 1. they had the real gear/or accurate reproductions thereof and 2. the movie was given permission to shoot on and around the actual battlefield site, which is normally a national memorial park..
If you've never seen this film, do buy the dvd, the additional features make compelling viewing..........
