you are the first guy i am meeting to say that. I tell this to my kannada friend and get lambasted they seem to think that bollywood movies are hype while kannada movies have substance. Hard to say for i never watched one but the only thing is it is a passionate topic (especially since Rajni has some die hard supporters.

EDIT: btw the movie is not being dubbed in hindi? why? don't they want north indians to see whats the hype is about

Well, on offense meant to anyone, but i feel tht the South Indian film industries are simply trying to compete with bollywood in terms of money and thts why the high stakes and heftier pay packages. When i was in pondy recently, the local ppl thr are just mad about Rajnikant and the lot..they make shrines in their name..i think this is just too much...what kinda holy crap shit is this??
I have watched a few subtitled rajnikant movies when i was in pondy on local cable and i must confess, they are pathetic...the usual song and dance, village belle, his usual stunts and antics..it just gets so freaking repetitive after a while tht u feel like killing him... Also those who think tht gals expose too much in bollywood shud watch telugu, kannada and tamil movies...you'll be stunned by the wild gestures, exposure and vulgar song sequences in those movies...

Even if they know, the educated ppl from the cities too flock to the theaters to watch these pot boilers..i mean, its as if there is a hidden code among the ppl thr tht they just have to make a movie hit by watching it again and again, no matter how pathetic it may be..just in the name of the so called stars...tht attitude just sucks...

@private: I though as much. Fact is they love their movies. About songs, most of the actresses now are from north. Rajnikanth himself is a marathi by birth. Kind of reminds me of Krish or such kind of movies really. I thought kids like such fights but everyone likes them in the South.

And can someone tell me whats the logic behind every tamil/telugu hero having a mustache. Some look absolute cartoon in them.

Bro, thts the whole point..ppl nitpick at bollywood movies calling them formulaic but when compared to these pot boilers, i think atleast these bollywood flicks are better packaged if not having any better stories...i mean look at the costumes in these promo pics...these actors wud put govinda to shame... Such gaudy colors..

As for most of the actresses being from north, they still have to do what the directors want em to do, down there...and frankly speaking, gals in these tamil/telugu movies are only there for the song and dances and item numbers...thts why they dont have any problems taking a girl who doesnt know a word of the regional language because they hardly have a few lines of dialogs in these movies...most of the centrestage is taken up by the male actors..tht doesnt put them in good light...

And finally, look at these so called superstars...i mean they look like grand daddies(rajnikant, cheeranjeevi etc.) and they still dance with these 20 something girls...i mean, this is height re... and the girls are shown to fall for these very uncles with big mustaches as if all normal guys of their age were dead or wiped from the face of the earth...


And look at these costumes for god sake....aaarghhh...raaste mein aise nikla toh kutte phaad ke rakh denge..
