Director Danny Boyle’s Golden Globe-winning Slumdog Millionaire – a story based on Mumbai slums – has been nominated in five categories for the Academy Awards to be announced in February 2009.
Slumdog has been nominated for - Best Adapted Screenplay (Simon Beaufoy),
- Best Picture,
- Best Original Score (A R Rahman),
- Best Song (One each for Jai Ho and O Saya),
- Best editing,
- Best Sound Mixing (Resul Pookutty),
- Best Sound Editing (Resul Pookutty),
- Best Cinematography and
- Best Director (Danny Boyle)

Some reactions  Rahman said: "I did not think it will get there. God has been really kind. And I have to really thank the prayers of all the people and their good wishes.
"Something good is happening and I am really happy about it," he said, adding there is a kind of optimism in the film and so much of positive vibes as you leave the movie hall."
Co-director Loveelyn Tandon said, "We have proved everyone wrong. It's a crazy feeling beyond words. Ten nominations is something unbelievable."

All set for a giant killing at the Oscars Let's hope so, it'll be terrible if a great movie like SM gets rolled by Hollywood drivel such as Benjamin Button and trash of a similar nature...............
I want Hollywood, (and Bollywood too), to understand that what makes a movie great is the quality of the script, the commitment of its cast and the skill/dedication of the director & their staff......... Get these things right and you have a Slumdog Millionaire or a Pan's Labyrinth, get it wrong and you wind up with Independence Day..............  |

I am really hoping that a movie as cliched, cheesy and contrived as Slumdog doesn't win any Oscars. Yes we need to be recognised.......... but only for the right efforts. Even the score by Rahman is passable nothing great, he has in past given better scores then slumdog's. The only reason Slumdog is receiving the critical acclaim it is because it was made by a "white" man, i suppose everyone knows that at the back of their minds. Otherwise there have been better films...........
