Taare Zameen Is Going to Oscar

Taare Zameen Par, the directorial debut of Aamir Khan has been chosen as India’s official entry to the 81st Annual Academy Awards, the Oscar Awards....

It will compete in the section for Best foreign film. The announcement was made by filmmaker Suneel Darshan, who headed the film federation of India (FFI) jury to select the film in Mumbai on Thursday.

TZP was written buy Amol Gupte and was a critical and commercial success when released in 2007. Apparently the movie made Rs 131 crore in the box office worldwide.

TZP is the sensitive story of the bonding between a teacher played by Aamir Khan and a dyslexic child played by Darsheel Safary.

The movie beat several other contenders. Other films in fray for selection were critically acclaimed Marathi films Valu and Tingya, Nishikant Kamat’s Mumbai Meri Jaan, Neeraj Pandey’s A Wednesday, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Jodhaa Akbar, Farhan Akhtar’s Rock On!, Subhash Ghai’s Black and White and Telugu film Gamyam.

Finally an entry which actually has a chance at winning the oscar. TZP deserved it.

If any indian movie is ever gonna win an oscar, then it has to be TZP

I hope it does well, certainly the subject matter alone must surely count for something, as opposed to the dross that often seems to get up...........

TZP has no chances ..mumbai meri jaan or even Tahaan would have been a better choice !
