The 2006 FORMULA 1 Turkish Grand Prix will be held on 27th August. It will be hosted at Istanbul Park, located on the Asian side of Istanbul, approximately 90 kms from the centre of Istanbul.
The spectacular 5.378 kilometer track is designed by famed German architect Herman Tilke, the man behind Sepang, Bahrain and Shanghai, and features 14 turns - eight lefts and six rights.
All eyes are on the invigorated championship tussle. The pit lane will also be the sight of sideways glances following some interesting manoeuvres in what has become known as the 'silly season' with many drivers yet to confirm their 2007 destination.
Ferrari are clearly the team on a mission while Renault will be concentrating all of their efforts on enhancing their gradually loosening grip on this year's championship after a poor showing from both drivers in Hungary. McLaren are looking good and expected to come back hard at their rivals after a strong 2nd place podium finish from De la Rosa.
With the season moving into the latter stages, Alonso holds a 10-point lead and must be looking to Turkey as being his best chance to fight back on what will be more of a level playing field. What is for certain though, both Alonso and Schumi cannot afford to have another fruitless performance as they did in Hungary.
