Hey Guys,

I just wanted to get a feedback on what you guys feel about the language we follow on FE. As a community we need to understand what most of are comfortable with.

So kindly give us your feedback and choose an option in the poll. We now cater to an international audience, so think before you make a choice

Good initiative, Agnie.

I'd say that using any language, in a small amount is fine, provided english translation is provided. But the excess of it should be avoided.

If thats not meant for me to understand then so be it. But you cannot take freedom of expression from any member. Yes, the basic language used for posting ideally should be english but if some members want to interact with each other in their mother tongue then they should be allowed to do so. Don't we ourselves post in hindi in forums sometimes?


But really what is the point of this thread? I mean we are doing fine on FE, no? Everybody is getting along and I am sure the language of content is not an issue, yet? Then why the need for this thread?

Imo most pople understand the bit of Hindi we use, and i think we can translate to English when its a lot. I think Agnel is concerned that FE won't grow big if there is a lot of Hindi as many in South don't understand it(actually most)

I think the reason behind the idea is, we are lately having plenty of International visitors. Now, consider yourself visiting a site which has discussions in a language you dont understand and there are no translations. No matter how much you like the site, how likely are you, to visit the site more often and be a regular basis?

^Yes, but where has hindi or any other language except english been used on FE extensively? Use of regional languages in 2-3 threads really doesn't matter. Even if you visit big international forums, you will always find a hint of local flavor in their postings, that sought of thing is inevitable really. Infact, a hint of local flavor is what makes FE a "Desi" forum.
